WE ASKED YOU to post your questions about the STARGATE franchise, and you came through with some great topics! It's actually been a couple of years since we last did a video like this, but we would like to do them more frequently moving forward. So if you have a question and you don't see it here (or in the previous installments) go ahead and post it in the comments. Whether it's a lore question from in-universe, something about the shows' production, or a theory you have, we would love to talk about it!

In this Q&A:
00:38 - Continue Destiny's story?
02:08 - Where did the Tok'ra go?
03:10 - A Tok'ra Harcesis?
03:51 - Original plans for chevrons 8 and 9?
04:54 - Incoming wormholes make the gate spin?
06:09 - Why aren't novels canon?
09:13 - The Egypt point of origin?
11:45 - Why wasn't Midway rebuilt?
12:57 - Why was Egeria the only Tok'ra queen?
14:06 - Heal the plague with Telchak's device?
16:08 - Sticking your hand into the event horizon exit?
18:05 - Are Stargate's sets still usable?
19:44 - Are the Tau'ri too powerful now?
21:11 - Why doesn't the gate shake anymore?
23:02 - The Asimov quote in "200"?
23:58 - Didn't Atlantis already know how to defeat Replicators?
26:13 - Does the Ori galaxy have Stargates?

Regarding the receiving Gate spinning or "dialing" - yes, it's been inconsistent. But what always made the most sense to me (and it appeared several times on at least SG1 and Atlantis and I'm almost sure that it always worked like that on SGU) was that as the dialing Gate was dialing the 7th (or 8th or 9th) chevron, the receiving Gate started spinning and the final chevron (and only the final chevron) at the same time as the dialing one.

for the ori having stargates. remember they made the supergate to send their ships. they have the knowledge and skills to make them. i just assumed they where all under their controll. like the villagers dont know how to use them or there isnt any dhd's so only the priors can dial without a hand held dhd (would assume they could develop one). and with the rings to transport them they might even have the skills like the ep where the team is looking for merlins device with adrea and the teleporter "beams" them up then dials gate sends the data through to the other teleporter and rematerilizes them. so the rings would dematerilize them the gate would dial then the reciving rings would rematerilize them...idk just a thought.

I think the idea of the gate (at least as it is explained in some episodes) is that the actual wormhole is actually microscopic, too small fot even an atom, so only radio signals go through (in a two-way fashion), and that the blue shining surface is an interface field that scans and converts matter into information, that is sent through the wormhole and then reconstructed by a similar rematerialization field. So, based on that, my assumtion is that if you cross the receiving gate, the field is in reconstruct mode and will not interact with you at all. Whay is really scary is the iris. It is not just a door that prevents you from going trough, it will kill you. ¿Can you imaginde returning from a mission, crossing that blue event horizon that you can't see through, without knowing if the GDO or the iris servos may have malfunctioned and you are walking into instant death?

Not only does MGM no longer have materials from the sets... after they left Bridge Studios, the soundstages themselves were torn down and replaced.
So even the occasional shots in the show that were filmed in the production hallways and rooms... those locations no longer exist.

As far as I know, absolutely nothing of Stargate remains at Bridge Studios.

My take on why the gate appears to “dial” for incoming wormholes: It’s a safety feature. A warning from the gate to anyone nearby that they need to move tf away before the kawoosh vaporises them. Or, to get their defences prepared for whatever might be coming through.

Regarding an incoming wormhole 'spinning' the gate ("dialing") before it opens on Earth: We might explain (excuse?) this by noting that gate travel was not instantaneous, but with a traveler being "tracked" in their progress through the wormhole, taking several seconds to complete the journey. They didn't always show this, but it was established as a 'mechanic' of the gate system. Yet sometimes an inbound wormhole opens and people step through immediately. This would be impossible, unless what is happening is that perhaps the opening of a wormhole winds it way through space progressively, and while an incoming gate 'knows' it is happening, and shows lights or spins as a warning, the event horizon (puddle) doesn't form on the receiving end until the wormhole 'arrives', in about the same amount of time it takes someone to travel. That is, someone could step into a wormhole at the sending end before the portal actually is established on the receiving end. This might also help explain the 'one way' nature of the wormholes, viewing them as flowing 'rivers' rather than as static connections.

16:34 the way i think it works is the buffer, the incoming side can disassemble you and we know the gate waits for all of you to go through before sending you so it just waits

Concerning Jack holding the gate open. We know from Atlantis that the entire object must be inside the gate before it's transported. Then it holds to reason that an object will materialize as a whole or not at all. I've always assumed this is why things are tossed out of the wormhole even if they pass though slowly. The gate pushes you out the other side. So I don't see why sticking your hand through the event horizon would be different on either end. Now concerning his point about safety my first instinct was a sarcastic "yeah because the ancients NEVER leave dangerous tech laying around." But after giving it some thought I believe he's right of all the tech they have made the Stargates have the most fail-safes and safety measures by far. So given a wormhole is one way I'd imagine that jumping into the wrong end would just spit you back out where you came from. You're dematerialized and stored in the buffer as normal, but the destination is right where you started. Hence you get spit back out.

I think a new show should be back on Earth with Atlantis there and it going public. I think this would give some interesting plot lines.

The bit with the incoming wormhole- will it stop people going back through it.... remember when Jack was stranded on a planet after a metor shower struck and buried the gate, they sent a malp through and they said it slipped back through the wormhole due to it being horizontal. I think you'll just go through the event horizon and die.

Hey, Great video.
I don't have any questions, but I would like to expound on the stargate's constellation address system. Which doesn't make sense and you touched on how I reconcile this a bit. So, if the stargate's symbols are constellations as viewed from Earth, then it would suggest that every Stargate would have 39 different symbols and that would make it hard to determine how to get back home because you wouldn't know what to dial. Every planet has a different view of the stars in the galaxy, right? But I suspect that each stargate would have just one unique symbol identifying the planet of origin and the symbols common to every stargate depict groups of stars spread throughout the galaxy at 38 different positions and they would look like constellations but not actually BE constellations per say. You would not be able to use it for millions or even thousands of years either because stars move. It takes a hundred thousand years or so for Sol ( our sun ) to orbit Sagittarius A star ( the super massive black hole at the center of our galaxy). But a bunch of the stars in our galaxy do stay in a similar Position relative to ours and the system was stated in canon how it updates regularly like how Android phones have routine updates and it may not need to identify each star in each group but maybe just a few. And it would need to continue working if a star or two went nove or whatever. It's all very complicated and sometimes my brains hurt trying to reconcile things that don't seem to work out. But good science fiction is about suspending disbelief and enjoying it for the story even though it doesn't make sense. And the best sci-fi does this. I mean, look at Star Trek. We'll never have transporters or transporter based replication for instance. It absolutely doesn't make sense. However I do think we'll have antigravity stuff and gravity plating eventually because I think there are relationships between spacetime, gravity, mass, and stuff going on with atomics and the macro universe that will become apparent when we figure out the Grand Unified Theory. After that we could also possibly build a Stargate system and we better find a way to dial up other planets in the galaxy. I think it could be a possibility even if we can't understand it now.
What does anyone think about that?

I think it would be interesting to see a new series that focuses more on the Ancients, with some people (like Daniel, but also new characters) travelling in time and staying with the Ancients.

17:25 THINK Destiny-SGU, rush n team returning late, Rush told Eli to stick his arm in the event horizon, and the gate Did Not shut down as it was supposed to-ticking clock n all-then the team returned from their water or whatever search, Destiny jumped-all good! Good one sadly I had forgot about Oneill's psuedo-turn coat moment... ;p

Question: How long does a stargate stay open? In some Episodes they flee from enemies and the gate seems to close immediately. Other times it stays open for a while without anyone passing through. Sometimes it stays open because they send transmissions through. But if transmissions are enough, wouldn't it basically stay open permanently (until the automatic limit) especially on technologically advanced planets that transmit a lot of data in all directions (E.g. radio stations)?

Q: 1. (Some of the question one may have been touched upon at 16:13)
I've noticed in Stargate Atlantis sometimes when a team is under fire on foot and they come back through the Stargate into the city & they turn around and shoot their guns. If the gates are one way travel as established then that would be pointless as it wouldn't hit anything?

2. In Atlantis I think it was mentioned that you can't go through a stargate in a cloaked puddle jumper. But it kind of looked like they do at the end of the episode where they drop off Todd (S3) Thay keep the jumper cloaked and take off and he looks and it moves towards the gate and the camera cuts. I don't think it unclokes?

3. Why are some stargates tough and resilient and Survive destruction & others get destroyed really easy. Even need a gatebuster bomb in somecases?

4. I think this is a community error. So iv notice on a Daedalus-class ship - the show will put images of the ship on displays like computer screens but sometimes they've may of used the wrong ship and it might be Prometheus or something else?

Replys to this video:
4:58 If there's an off-world activation Stargate command does not know what planet is dialing it. Season 4 The other side. After they spoken to the guy on the monitor screen & gate shuts down. "TEAL'C There is nothing that can be done, Daniel Jackson, without the coordinates to their world. CARTER
We've got them. He transmitted them before disengaging."
6:18 that's not correct in Star Wars there was George lucas's Star Wars Canon yo him/The expanded Media mostly not made by him. Which he said he would change anything that happened or might take something from it if he liked it - if he was making something in Star Wars. Disney Star Wars they started having Canon books.
9:55 Sometimes you can scan a planet and find a Stargate other times you cannot like in SG1 season 6 episode Memento.
16:13 yeah we have seen people put their arm through a stargate to keep it open. People shooting in to a incoming Wormhole We've seen people be killed by the part that comes out the Wormhole when it opens. We see a Jafar with a staff weapon running through the Stargate as it shuts off and it chops the back part of the weapon off.
23:59 In Atlantis season 1 the storm part 1 the devices across the city that they have to turn on look like a giant replicator brick and separates in half.

27:52 not a very good shot of the back wall here, but, on the wall behind Adria is a ring... it's about the size of a stargate... what if that is an ori stargate? or more accurately, the ring is made of curved tiles, what if that's like a cover for their stargate? It's just like, built into the wall.

I really do like your answer though, that it probably looks a lot like their ring transporters, with that more marble looking finish, and the symbols look like those runes.

I would like to see Weir's replicator find their way to the Destiny. They fine out that an SG team found it and the message from god. So they research the ship and fine their way to the it with supplies to repair, rebuild, and upgrade the ship. Now like Voyager, you will have two crew that have to learn to live and work with one another.

8:40 The way I have settled the Tie-In media debate with my own personal headcanon is something that thankfully comes baked into Stargate: They are all alternate realities to the Prime Reality of the TV show.

Be that the original Stargate movie, the Fandemonium books, comics, toys, anything that isn't directly shown on-screen as part of the three TV shows still actually happens, just not in the universe we've all watched for 17 seasons. That is why the characters seem the same in these other sources (or even a little bit different, e.g. O'Neil and O'Neill), but the bits of tech, people or situations that might occur in them are never referenced or appear in the shows.

That works well for me when analysing the series. Perhaps these events happened to one of the SG-1s that we saw in Ripple Effect, but not the team that eventually figured out that episode and sent them all on home. In a multiverse, we can have any and all stories we want, but only the ones that effect the shows are part of that Canon On-Screen universe and it's characters.

That is why you can read a book where SG-1 use a piece of tech to rescue SG-10 from a black hole, but Carter, Thor and Teal'c are utterly stunned when the Replicators manage to navigate away from one in New Order. And it means nothing is ever not possible in the mutliverse. You never need to resort to saying that can't happen when discussing topics with other fans. All of it happens, just in different realities or timelines.

My take on entering through a receiving Gate: Like with the dialing side, nothing is transported unless an entire discreet object (and any container it has) has fully passed the event horizon, and is held in the buffer to be pulled back out at any time if, say, someone stuck an arm in. I feel it's highly likely this works the same on both sides, it's only when something is fully in that things go differently (I'm not sure whether it's disintegrated and not sent, or disintegrated, sent, and just not reintegrated, but that rock is dead). Remember one episode where SG-1 wasn't sure if they dialed out or someone else dialed in but they went for it anyway; if they knew (as they would surely have tested) that they'd bounce off a receiving event horizon instead of going through it but not making it to the other side, they wouldn't have paused to consider the chance they might die instantly if they'd figured wrong. I don't know where anyone is getting that barrier theory, as even if it would be a smarter safety measure, nothing onscreen suggests it any more than just walking right out the back, or being turned around and spat out the front again.

22:09 they talk about it in the episode with the Antarctica gate. That’s how the find Jack and Sam at the end there after that great line from Daniel “what happens when you call your own phone number? - wrong person to ask!” 😄
