The Handmaid's tale
"A chair, a table, a lamp" - page 7, are items of luxury. But in the Red Center time, such luxury does not exist.
The freedom of choice has been confined where luxury is the ability to pick where to sit. "I can sit in the chair, or on the window seat" - page 7.
My scene captures the dark tone of the book - where a typical room is consider a prison.
A large comfy chair, the ability to feel the wind and a lamp are deception in this scene.
The chair and lamp often provides one to read, however at this time- reading is prohibited for handmaids.
While the wind obnoxious currents taunts you of your freedom knowing that you cannot move freely like it.
This scene only consists of one color and two shades, White, Black and blue where White and black represents fear and cold. The only color represents freedom and how close but far freedom really is.
With only one color it creates this dull gloomy feel that leaves a heavy hearted sensation afterwards.
