Being a mom to a small child is the hardest job I’ve ever done, and here’s why:

It’s honestly really frustrating not making money for a job that requires a lot of physical, mental, & emotional work.

Hear me out for a hot second though. We ultimately grow up learning to get rewarded for our efforts.

As students, good grades reflect a ‘job well done.’

As athletes (the golf team counts, right lol?), trophies & medals are earned for time practiced, dedicated, & accomplished in the sport.

As employees, wages are received for hours worked & promotions are obtained for high performance.

So how are you just supposed to unlearn everything you’ve ever learned about achievement once you become a mom?

When motherhood IS your job, the importance can easily be overlooked because there’s nothing tangible to assign to its value…at least in the beginning stages.

Wiping dirty bums, soothing cries, making 3x meals/day, cleaning the kitchen (again), laundry piles, engaging in play, being responsible for the survival of another person 24/7, etc.

No one is there to grade you. No one is compensating you for your labor. No one is giving you a performance review to help provide feedback & direction.

The absence of “rewards” can can make it complicated to see the value in all the work you do at home.

Motherhood is a full-time job.

It definitely takes time to teach yourself how to reassign value to your new role & and I often still feel so guilty for not being able to monetarily support my family

(…even though I’m still working my booty off to raise our young daughter!🍑😅)

I’m grateful to stay home, but it’s not always easy - it takes a hit at your identity & can make you question your worth in today’s society.

We can love our children deeply, endlessly, & unconditionally. But it’s a hard adjustment to make & your frustrations/feelings are valid.

Just in case no one has told you lately you are doing an amazing job, mama x
