Record labels are only concerned with money and don’t always understand or care about the full soul of a piece of work. That’s why having the right team is so important. So happy she stood up for herself and was allowed her creative freedom. She was right..

Women who stand up for themselves against the whatever (haters, patriarchy, corporation, majority) are so heroic. Years ago it was hopeless, now it’s hard but can be done. Bravo ladies!

She is such an amazing human. All her music speaks to the human experience. Tracy Chapman is to songs what Harper Lee is to fiction.

Tracy Chapman was one of the first artist. I downloaded on my iPod when it first came out. I saw her in concert and have always loved her music. To this day I will still listen to her signature album over and over. I never get tired of it.such a beautiful voice

That’s such a good example of how record labels think audiences are stupid and have to be spoon-fed simplistic, danceable garbage, and how they’re absolutely wrong. This song is so universally loved and revered, despite being over 5 minutes, having like 7 verses, and not getting to the chorus until after the 3rd one. Because it’s a beautiful story about something meaningful

Glad she stood her ground as a Black Woman! This song resonates with Black people over Civil Rights, Women from abusive relationships, families and children surviving in poverty, teens avoiding street gangs, countries that fight one another in war over frivolous things. People living in areas that stay stagnant instead of changing with times. Everybody has a struggle story that needs to be told! Thank you Tracy Chapman, for your spiritual, chilling poetry put to music!

I’m so glad she fought to keep her songs, especially this one, the way they are supposed to be. Her music has soul and meaning and touches people’s hearts. That’s never out of date!
