Learn how to subtract two fractions with unlike denominators

👉 Learn how to add and subtract fractions whose denominators are not the same. Recall that when we want to add or subtract fractions having the same denominator, we add the numerators and retain the (common) denominator. This is different when the fractions have different denominators. When adding fractions with different denominators, we convert the fractions to equivalent fractions having the same denominator. This is achieved by finding the LCM of the different denominators (the least number that the denominators can divide without remainder). We then multiply the denominators by a number which will yield the LCM. You will also multiply the numerator by the same number with which you multiplied the denominator. Notice now that the fractions have the same denominator. We can now add or subtract the numerators retaining the common denominator.

The thing is yes you learn from these yes you MIGHT use them in your life but most of the time students will forget this because they’re just gonna focus on more complex stuff like algebra and calculus so you learn from this but eventually youll just forget it

So in other words, if you multiply the fraction with lowest denominator with a number in both the numerator and the denominator that will match the fraction with the highest denominator and solve it then you will get the answer. Like in the example that he gave, the denominator of the fraction with the lowest denominator is 3 and the fraction with the highest denominator is 6. So you have to multiply the fraction with the lowest denominator (3) with 2/2 in order to make it match the fraction with the highest denominator (6) and make the fractions of the equation have similar denominators.
