LEGO Star Wars needs more video game sets

Star Wars Outlaws, the upcoming big-budget game from Ubisoft, is arguably the largest single piece of Star Wars media debuting this year.

Unlike for some previous games, though, there don't seem to be any tie-in LEGO sets releasing alongside the game. Where previous games have had LEGO sets on store shelves months in advance, Outlaws thus far seems to be following in the footsteps of Jedi: Fallen Order in that there are no sets whatsoever for the game at launch.

Whether this changes down the line remains to be seen, but certainly it appears that the golden age of Star Wars games getting accompanying LEGO sets has come to an end.

Stinger Mantis was such an obvious homerun set and they passed on it...

I will never understand how we still haven't gotten a Lego Mantis from Jedi fallen order and Survivor.

Same could be said about the indiana jones sets that were released when indy 5 came out.. and they pulled the temple of doom. Dnt know if they will make any for the upcoming game though

Jedi Survivor/Fallen Order was a missed opportunity. They should have seen the popularity from Fallen Order and had a Mantis ready for the release of Survivor. Would love to have a Mantis with figures(The crew and inquisitors). It could still happen, but a this point, I doubt it. The brick built BD-1 should have come with Cal Kestis as well.

The Sith Fury Class Interceptor 9500 from TOR is a set I still have together today. It's amazing.

I want more Star Wars game sets(Bring on the OUTRIDER from Shadows of the Empire!!). Even if it's a bit late.

I think lego would be silly to not do a jedi series mantis to tie in with the 3rd EA game.

Outlaws can wait to se if it has impact but the ship would work too.

Lego did make avengers game sets but with soft branding about it and those weren’t new characters.

I’m hoping we get marvel’s spider-man and wolverine sets. The buildable figures for spidey seemed to be a soft tie in

As a BIG fan of both LEGO and gaming (and to a slightly lesser extent Star Wars), this was a great video!

Fingers crossed for some more Horizon Forbidden West LEGO sets 🤞🤞

It’s crazy to me that this isn’t one of the biggest lego channels on youtube

Seeing the disappointment here with the lack of Lego sets based on Star Wars games is EXACTLY how I felt when we didn’t get any Lego sets for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 back when that released back in October outside of 2 Comic Con minifigures in 2019 & 2020 for the Advanced Suit & Miles suit from the game which are WAY too much money now. I had to rely on getting custom minifigures so I could own stuff like the Advanced Suit, the Anti Venom Suit, & Miles Morales 2099 suit from the game. I would’ve LOVED to see even just 1 set with an official Anti Venom Suit, an Advanced Suit 2.0, one of the new suits for Miles, Mr. Negative, & a Venom big fig with wings, but Lego just keeps ignoring these games & it really upsets me. At least we’re getting Fortnite sets later this year.

We definitevely deserve a Lego Mantis playset! Lego should also take a couple set with Kay Vess and Nix. And I agree with every single word of the video!

I would love game based lego sets. With the awesome Spider-man games and Hogwarts Legacy in other themes it could give fresh ideas instead of rehashed ideas

If Lego makes a Purge Trooper battle pack or Purge Troopers in general, then I'll be more than happy. I haven't played KOTOR or anything from The Old Republic, but I'll always welcome sets from that era. I REALLY want Purge Troopers though...

From what I've heard, LucasArts had been struggling for a long time with poor management, development issues, and massive layoffs. So when Disney acquired Lucasfilm, they decided it wasn't worth the risk, financially and reputationally, to continue making games in-house, so they decided to wash their hands of the problem and let other developers take on that risk.

I think another reason for LEGO's hesitance to make sets based on videogames is about trying to find good source material. For example, the Force Unleashed only got one set in the form of the Rogue Shadow, but I think that's mainly because that is the only interesting ship in the game. Any other sets would basically just be overpriced minifigure packs with bits of scenery or buildings to fill out the set.

LEGO also has to think about profitability. With sets being so expensive, they prefer to play it safe and devote the largest sets to source material that they are confident will sell well. If they made a Stinger Mantis set that is sized to be minifigure compatible, it would have to cost upwards of $100 or even $150. Only hardcore fans of the Jedi videogames would be willing to fork out that much money for a ship that only appears in the games. So, would that set make more money than it would cost to produce it? A safer bet would be to make an Inferno Squad battle pack that's so cheap that enough people will buy it even if they aren't familiar with Battlefront II.

Another factor to consider is the sheer volumetric flow rate of Star Wars content being released nowadays. The movies and TV shows get more exposure and more viewership than the games, so consumers are more likely to buy sets based on those. And with LEGO's limited production capacity, they have to fill their portfolio with sets they think will be most profitable.

I honestly feel that it may be an issue of age ratings? I believe a large margin of Star Wars films are only PG, while the games are usually Teen, or Mature. It would be hard to sell a set for a product that kids can't (pretending we live in a world where people actually paid any attention to age ratings on movies and games for their children) reasonably check out. The LEGO group almost never makes sets for anything past PG13, so I'd imagine it's just an issue of not wanting to make a set of something kids can't play.

I love Star Wars but Disney Star Wars is turning into something else, for someone else. I’m not going to be playing Outlaws. I’ll stick with battlefront and the Lego Star Wars saga. Lego just needs to make OG Star Wars sets and I’ll be happy 😊

Is this clickbait, or are you not a star wars fan? While one would *want* this to be good, certainly we'll only know after the fact... its projected enough alarm bells already to stay well away until the youtube playthroughs come out.
