Number 6 STROLL DOWN THE BOULEVARD
Stroll down the Boulevard
The Boulevard was first built in 1884, but it has changed over the years as new attractions have opened. At Batumi Bay, which has many fun things to see, a boulevard that goes for seven kilometres (4.3 miles) begins. In addition to the above places of interest, there are many viewpoints, places to take pictures, the old Boulevard with its many fountains, and many cafés, just to name a few.

Number 5 EUROPE SQUARE
Europe Square
Batumi has kept the best buildings from the 19th century, when it was a free port on the oil route from the Caspian Sea to Europe. During the time when Batumi was being fixed up, these old buildings were also fixed up. Next to them, new buildings were built in the same style. Go to Europe Square and look at the Medea statue and astronomical clock in the middle of it. In the story of the Argonauts, Medea is a Georgian woman who helped Jason take the Golden Fleece from the Georgian state of Colchis to ancient Greece.

Number 4 PIAZZA SQUARE
Piazza Square
Many locals go to Piazza Square to get a drink or something to eat because it has boutique hotels, cafes, and interesting architecture. The Georgian architect Vazha Orbeladze did a great job of combining different styles and trends when he made the Piazza.

Number 3 CHACHA TOWER
Chacha Tower
The impressive Chacha Tower is near the Alphabetic Tower and Ali and Nino. It was built to have a chacha fountain, which is the Georgian national spirit, instead of a water fountain. People say that the chacha still flows once a week for 15 minutes.

Number 2 ALPHABETIC TOWER
Alphabetic Tower
There are many tall buildings in Batumi, and the Alphabetic Tower is one of them. It shows how the Georgian alphabet and people are unique. The tower is another important landmark of the city. It is near the statue of Ali and Nino. The 130-meter-tall building looks like a DNA strand with 33 letters of the Georgian alphabet on it. Each letter is made of aluminium and is four metres tall. The elevator shaft goes all the way to the top of the building, which has a great view.

Number 1 STATUE OF ALI AND NINO
Statue of Ali and Nino
This statue of eternal love is a well-known landmark in Batumi. It is in Batumi Bay. Every 10 minutes, the figures, which were made by the Georgian artist Tamara Kvesitadze, move toward each other, join together, and then move away from each other. The idea for this beautiful statue came from a book by Kurban Said with the same name. The book is about a love story between an Azerbaijani Muslim named Ali and the Christian daughter of a nobleman from Georgia. The story takes place in Baku in 1918.

Just arrived in Batumi last week from Australia. Batumi really is a hidden gem to most of the world's population. The old and the new buildings are interesting and blend well together. The biggest thing I notice is how unfriendly the locals are. Shop assistants rarely thank you or smile and barely acknowledge you. Very few people appear to speak much English despite what I had read previously. But, never the less, there is lots to see and do in Batumi to keep you entertained.

Something to know for American's visiting Batumi - coffee shops, restaurants and shops open much later - like 9:00 a.m. or later. And the coffee isn't very good in Batumi or Tbilisi. But the boulevard along the beach is clean and looks beautiful. For ice cream shops - Luca Polore is a winner...it's very good. When the surf is high you can go to a small beach in the bay near the old soviet ferris wheel. The surf is much lower there when there is high tide.

The dolphinarium is a great place to go if you like to see intelligent wild animals couped up in a pool that is far to small for them, and watch them be perform mindless tricks for a mindless audience.
The restaurant on top of the alphabet tower s a great place to go for a meal (especially at night when the city's lights are all on. The dancing fountains are fun too.
