This Dustin Poirier is definitely has better submission and takedown defense than the one who fought Khabib. This Dustin didn't do stupid things like jumping guillotine. Do you think a legend like Dustin want to get embarrassed in his last title shot? He has made a lot of improvements in grappling department for BSD and this fight. He was hungrier also because this is his last title shot and he gave his best effort. Khabib fought a Dustin who got taken down by Dan Hooker. Give some respect to Islam. His striking also looks great. Then according to your logic Charles also finished Dustin early. Then he should be also better than Islam. This is the best version of Dustin fought in a title fight.

Dustin should be proud man. Everyone counted him out and he made Islam look more human than anyone ever has. The Islam hate needs to stop though, the man is a beast and he’s got heart too.

Is Weasel going to even mention Dustin’s TDD in this video? Somehow he made it through the entire breakdown video earlier without even alluding to Dustin’s amazing TDD and adjustments mid fight.
“He can’t take you down in the center.” Worked perfectly up until Islam made an adjustment himself and did that wacky Russian snap, except he used Dustin’s leg instead of his arm. There’s a video of Islam hitting that takedown with the arm instead of the leg in training.

I think Khabib was only a better grappler than Islam but i also think people really upgraded their grappling defence after what they saw what Khabib did to a whole division.

I'm not convinced that "this Dustin is not as good as the Dustin that fought Khabib." Sure, this Dustin wasn't throwing as heavy hands as he did in the Khabib fight, but he wasn't overextending as much as he did in that fight, not to mention his takedown defense, ability to thwart multiple takedown threats in the second and third round, while expending a ton of energy have to count for something. I do agree though, I'd take Khabib over Islam any day, but put some respect on "The Diamond's" name, he approached this fight with a game plan that would have allowed him to last longer in his Khabib fight (but I don't think this Dustin would hurt Khabib).

Saying the Dustin that Khabib beat is better than the Dustin that Islam beat is unfair in my opinion.

Yes Dustin was more in his athletic physical prime when he fought Khabib but Islam fought a craftier, more veteran version of Dustin that still seemingly has his physicality but is just A LOT more prepared for the Dagestani style of grappling. I think the fight last night being so competitive is more to do with Dustin learning and growing more than anything else.

Man people who hate grappling.... Those grappling exchanges between islam and poirier were waaay more interesting to watch, had way more technique amd skill involed, than for example the shitshow striking in the co-main...

I have sparred with Sean at least 30 times at XC. He has absolutely gotten better and better ! He’s the hardest guy to land on that I ever sparred with! Congrats brother… I’m so happy and proud of you success ❤

It’s frustrating as a fight fan listening to UFC fans talk about things with such silly narratives. You can’t say Khabib is better than Islam, better, but if Islam wins one more fight he is better. Islam accepted Dustin's boxing challenge and outboxed him. Both fighters saved the event, yet Strickland isn't receiving criticism for having the most boring fight. If Islam had fought like that, people would have gone crazy.
