Mezcal isn't approached easily: It can have an almost turpentine-like taste and an artificial smoky quality. But Montelobos is aiming to overhaul the spirit's image. Charles Passy joins the News Hub. Photo: Montelobos

I am currently drinking my first bottle of mezcal, Montelobos espadin. I really like it. I do not get even a hint of petroleum products or turpentine but I have long loved some of the very smokey peaty whiskies from Scotland and Ireland, so, I was not put off by or confused by the smokey note.
The flavour is lovely and complex.
I have been a tequila drinker for some time and now and I will be exploring a variety of mezcals, as well.
I just don't get the turpentine thing, at all.
I thinks you guys is wusses.😆😁

This was my first mezcal and it did have a gasoline like flavor at first. I did really like the complexity of the drink with a nice Agave finish
