Francois Hougaard candidate for dumbest play of the year

After South Africa are awarded a penalty at a ruck, scrum half Francois Hougaard decides to take a quick tap then boots the ball directly into touch on the full during the match against Wales in November 2014 at the Millennium Stadium. This gave away a lineout from where the ball was taken, and was arguably one of the dumbest plays seen all year.

Takes the tap to keep the tempo up, looks up, sees space over the top, right decision to kick after a turnover arguably with the defence pushed up to attack. Poor execution, in hindsight, could have taken that kick without tapping first. I see why he did what he did though.

Was a great bloody player, behind a couple of really good SA 9’s though.. his best was at wing for the Boks- NZ always found him very tough to handle..

Hougaard used to be a serious good player, but it seems to me with every tattoo he engraves on his arms, he got worse. My goodness me, what an ugly sight for sore eyes he has become.

tactically this might be the stupidest piece of play ever! what is the logic of when u have a penalty of taking a tap and then aimimg for touch and giving the ball back to the opposition?
We all know that if he hadn't tapped before kicking it straight out it would have been a springbok lineout in Wales half. You can forgive errors like knock-ons and the odd forward pass or pen conceded, but this is just utter stupid. I mean, where is Hougaard's head at here?!

people like to talk about one or to bad incidents and forget the many more smart stuff, like dean grundeling very good player got only one chance in nz against nz he made 1 or 2 terible mistakes, now he got the crown "dumbest sbok ever""!!???..and was dropped forever aswell, others like elton and many got chances every season and still cant manage the green jersey...
