I'd almost fly to London just to rent a Brompton, 5 pounds per day is a bargain 😊

I was thinking that a big part of cycling infrastructure is the secured bike storage near shopping areas.
Lots of people ride bicycles, but majority of people who ride cargo bikes, for transporting children/dogs/bulk groceries, have access to secured parking through their employer or educational facility.
Having worked in custodial for a few years, I've noticed health care-related companies are the ones who offer bike storage/lockers/showers most often. Takes a lot of pressure off me to know I can ride to work, then lock up my bicycle and have it there at the end of my day, not stolen.

They also have those Brompton lockers at larger commuter rail stations (for example, Didcot Parkway), so you can pick one up just as you get on the train, travel into London for the day with the Brompton, then leave it at the station on the way home.

5 pounds per day for a Brompton is cheaper than buying one.

Oh man, I would have lived to have had one of those when I was recently in London. My hotel had a free rental program.

Maybe good thing for those who can fit the normal brompton seat post but I need the telescopic due to long legs so normal is uncomfortable and extended is too short 😅

Fantastic but even better is the option to purchase a used Brompton at a possibly even more affordable price when done😊

Have you looked at Santander, great price for any occasion (day, one trip etc.) they also have the option of electric bikes if you are a member. The thing I love - you don’t need an app and can pay in cash

Seems cool. I'd be worried about the chances of theft if they were implemented in the US tho, since it's a practically unmodified Brompton.

Are you doing any events in London or just visiting?

The by the mile ebikes and scooters are a scam bird scoooters and others like them change their maps then hit people out of the zones with with fees and fines

It’s a justified complaint when the car brain scooter rider leaves the scooter in the middle of a sidewalk that they’re not even supposed to be riding on. The road is massive and wide, but it’s left in the middle of the skinny 1950s width sidewalk.

A good video idea would be to show sidewalk width throughout the decade. They’re sure different, and it sure matters

Great idea!

But to be clear: The „cluttering up streets“ argument against dockless systems is an unjustified complaint very often. Mostly it’s targeting scooters, which became a moral panik at this point. And if the complaints are justified there’s something you can do to adress the issue without getting rid of the dockless system.

I think renting a folding bike for a day and the „classic“ bike share each have their place 💚

Honestly this just seems straight-up worse than docked ebike systems. I agree dockless systems are a pain, because of the outrageous prices and their tendency to clutter footpaths, but docked means you know where to go, they're out of the way, and in my experience they're more likely to be reasonably priced.

Hi Tom. You must have posted about your gears but just wanted to ask, what action cam did you use in this video? Thanks!

I love my Brompton 😭 my only worry is that they are higher maintenance compared to the clunker bike share bikes

What happens if you lock one of these bikes up at your destination and it get stolen? Are you (or your insurance) on the hook for the cost?

$5 a day for a $3000 bike is an excellent deal

Bloody hell man, where is your hat? A nice wool Trilby style would work well.
