Old Cubase user here. I got plenty of tips. First used Cubase with the VST 3.5 version in the early 2000's. Cubase is really underestimated, it's the grandfather of MIDI edition. To split a note in the midi editor (for trap hats for example), use the Scissors Tool while holding down the ALT/Option key at the length of the first desired note. The original will be split into as many notes of that same length as will fit. Also for drums, use the drum editor, it allows you to name each of your lines/drum elements, hide unused lines, have a different grid for each drum element (very useful for neosoul or J Dilla beats, I like to have quintuplet or septuplet grid on some lines and 1/8th or 1/16T on others for that weird drunken feel).

If you have Maschine, I suggest you watch an old video made by a guy named D-One about how to use Cubase with Maschine as a plugin, his settings are pure genius.

Another one: use the Arranger Track and create a Cubase template with some empty containers on the arranger track (name them intro, verse, chorus or whatever you want and will need at some point), then when you compose, just work under those Arranger track containers. When you need to structure your track, use the arranger track features in the inspector to chain your blocks and try different things(you can even have them ready beforehand in you template example: INTRO-CHORUS-VERSE-CHORUS-VERSE-CHORUS-CHORUS-OUTRO), listen to the chain(s) you have ready or make them as you go. When you're happy with a chain, use the "flatten arrangement" command and you got a new project with the whole structure. If you have also the markers track bearing the same structure blocks as the Arranger track in your template, you could work even faster while you compose. If you're into producing beats very fast, you can throw ghost copies of your blocks into this (for example, in your template, maybe all your project parts will have roughly the same drum pattern, so why not just create an empty block on the Drums track, make ghost copies of it on the other parts, so that when you produce or modify your drum pattern on the original block, each and every ghost copy is instantly modified too. Once you flatten the arranger track, you can turn the ghost copies into real copies and modify them if needed.

Also, if you have some commands you use a lot or repeating workflows, I suggest you try the Macro shortcuts and maybe consider purchasing a Streamdeck . I use it to summon full VST tracks with instruments I tend to use very often, it's even possible to summon a preset group of tracks, it's trickier because it requires a little work to get the templates and key commands for that but it's very useful, I use this to import a pack of tracks with everything related to Maschine because setting Maschine's MIDI and audio routing everytime is a pain in the ass and a huge loss of my time.

If you're on a Mac and you like Maschine, it's also possible to use Maschine in standalone mode and have Cubase synced as a slave (I sometimes work this way because I love doing my drums in Maschine and the fast workflow with the hardware controller, but the piano roll in Maschine is so bad... So I have a few MIDI tracks in Cubase with their output targetting instruments in Maschine, it's like having everything Maschine can do in standalone but a better piano roll when you need it. When you have something you like in Cubase piano roll, you can "print" the MIDI from Cubase to the instrument patterns in Maschine. Getting MIDI sync and MIDI tracks working between Cubase and Maschine will just require a virtual MIDI port, very easy to build one in MacOS, you only need the built in MIDI and Audio App. I guess all this can also be done with a standalone MPC or even another DAW (I like to program my drums in Bitwig and transfer the result to Cubase tracks via MIDI).

If you're patient enough, you can put the Maschine controller (or an MPC I guess) in MIDI mode and replicate most of the standalone key commands of the controller by creating a template both in Cubase and Native Controller Editor. So far, I haven't figured out a way to assign 2 different commands to the infinite knobs of Maschine (for example zoom in/zoom out) but I think it's possible with some Akai machines or MPCs.

Cubase user since 1995 here 😅 I have it all since, "emagic logic" on PC (now Logic Pro 11), FL Studio, Ableton, Reason, Bitwig... etc. and always come back to Cubase, because it's the very best for producing music from A-Z in a Box. Maybe not the best creative tool and sure, not a life tool like Ableton, but for real producers, you can do what ever you like, EDM, RMB, Classic, Rock, Filmmusic.... Cubase has it all. Please, no DAW wars :)

Switched from Studio One to Cubase 13 Pro as my workhorse daw last month when Presonus made that update. Love Studio One, but I just want the "full version" and not pay monthly to have it and worry about exclusive handpicked features and additions for a mid cycle update. Cubase is not as easy to learn cuz it doesn't set things right up for you, but its capable. I find once you set some stuff on a couple projects, it'll automatically keep your setup. Not my first go around with Cubase either. Finally comfortable again with it.

My introduction to DAW production was Cubase SX3 . I've been a Studio One Cat for about 7 years But, I learned it quickly because it was similar to Cubase. I may try out this new version of Cubase.

Cubase is a beast .... sx3 days i saw a demo which showcased video edits synchronised to a track with-in it, so god knows how far that feature has evolved today ..
Keep rocking cubase. You will be pleasantly surprised on what it can actually do

former hardcore Logic and S1 user here. Now back on Cubase 13...and finally very happy! Cubase has so great features and pro fx, the best (!) mixer, inspiring sample content...highly recommend.

Cubase used to be my main DAW. It doesn't get as much love on YT. Traditionally, it has been great at midi and recording. Seems to be more popular nowadays with the Non-U.S. crowd and with Electronic producers.

Really coool! Long time Cubase user here. You can use the chord track to extract the chords from the loop. You also don't have to just use the sampler track there is a dedicated drum vst called Groove Agent and has a browser system. Also, try out the included sounds they are pretty dope 😉

When using drum plug ins ( if you have pro, whether it’s groove agent/mpc/maschine. You can route each bus to its own audio track and add effects unison style without Apollo ( technically you can do it with all the instruments)

I love the Mixer on Cubase. I tried switching to it from Ableton last year, but I got too frustrated trying to learn a new Daw 😂 Sticking with Ableton for now
