When you're watching something in a foreign language, do you prefer to watch the sub (meaning it's subtitled) or the dub (meaning it's been re-recorded with your preferred language). I am team sub, no question about it. It's always better for me to hear original voice acting and original emotion, even if I do not understand the words/ understand only some of the words. This way I feel closer to the original work and can feel its intended vibe better.
I noticed that English anime dubs take more liberties in localizing the script than subs do. Which is understandable, in a way. The lines English voice actors are saying are quite different from the original. So it adds something that was not there, and your perception of the story and characters ends up being quite different, if you watch dub, vs. Sub
Sometimes dub does add a fun unique flavor, when the voice actors are great (for example, the English dub of Adam from sk8 infinity is quite something).
And some English voice actors for Anima are real bad, I'm not even gonna lie.
But it's not only Japanese anime. If I watch Chinese anime, I prefer Chinese voices and Japanese dub just does not do it for me.
