The trap is a stabilising muscle, so the trick is to overload the trap bar(power shrug). Getting the stretch in the shrug is much better than holding it for a second at the top. Use straps when the grip gets fatigued. Just try it and watch the difference in your traps grow.

I usually see people doing deadlifts with it. I’ve never even thought of doing shrugs 🤷🏾‍♂️
