You're an amazing teacher, I have learnt more from you in a month than I have in 3 years.

@ Max Basford, yes learning the Major, Minor, Harmonic Minor, MelodicMinor, and some Modes will significantly help you when jamming with other ppl. Once you learn these scales you can use them to improvise to any chord progression, or lead riff. It also helps to learn the Theory of chord structure, the rules for chord patterns in Major/Minor Scales to improve your improvisational abilities.

Thanks Chris, it does make sense! I've just got to spend the monotonous time and effort in practicing and learning all the scales and such until they become second nature to me! I've found this website which I'll work through learning the individual scales!

I love the Phrygian Modes Chris. Yes they work very well with Harmonic Minors, and you can also throw in some Dorian Modes for diversity.

Thanks man! I'm working through them all as we speak! Wish I'd started learning this stuff when I was younger and had more time on my hands though lol!

The most important thing is that you understand what kind of 'G' riff you're dealing with. Major, minor, modal harmonic minor chromatic. Once you've deciphered that then your options become smaller and your choices become clearer. Make sense?

*the website name couldn't be posted for some reason, but essentially it is a guitar scale generator showing the individual patterns of any scale possible. I just wanted a quick easy solution, but I guess I'll have to spend the time learning them!

That's a Phrigian cool scale. I'm familiar with the one at 1:48 but this would be a nice one to use along with it. Cheers

No Pick! I use my nail filed a certain way. I'm using a 2007 Blackjack C-1 Schecter.

Chris, this is fantastic. Really enjoy the lessons. Just returning to guitar after a long hiatus and very inspiring. Ya, it did look like you had a secret pick somewhere. So I'm curious, what brand/model guitar is that??

Thanks! That would be awesome! I would however have to get a webcam and learn how to use Skype first!
What I'd really like to know and understand is when, for example, someone says "I'm gonna play a riff in the key of G" which scales and notes would fit with it (without resorting to trial and error). Do you think learning all the Major and Minor scales would help? Your solo builders have already improved my playing ten-fold!

I can't think of a book... What kind of lessons would you like to see and I'll see if I can help or we can do a skype lesson sometime?

Hi Chris,
Love all your videos and am learning a lot so firstly would like to express great THANK YOU! You talk in some of your videos about 'resolving' chords and major/minor scales, diminished notes etc etc... Obviously this is the whole music theory side of things. Do you have any recommendations on books or anything that I'd be able to learn this stuff from? I figure knowing the theory would really help my playing!
Thanks again! :)
