Thought you were spot on with the pet peeve shit hanging off gear video. Personally I think the majority of bushcrafters arent moving very far from their vehicle, or in basically farm forestry with very little secondary foliage etc. Not much wildland, back country stuff going on. And too many influencers get paid by gear companies so need to have stuff visible so they get paid.
You see it with folks who are professional hunters or back country folks. Very little gear swaying about to get hooked up or effect mobility. Whatever external gear is effectively immediate use, snowshoes, snow shovel, avalanche probe etc

I run a kuiu PRO LT Bag 5500 bag (90L) which has a total weight of 4.3 lbs with frame and all. Its a hunting pack. Only on the outside of my pack is my bow if I am moving fast and hard, other than that it attaches in front for quick access when I am stalking. Sometimes my crocks up top for water crossings. Water sits on the belt with hand gun and knife and hatchet all sit on belt. My pack weight is 35lbs without food and water and I could get it down to 25 but I take alot of luxaries in my old age.

Hey Mike, I agree with you, I want to have the least amount of gear on the outside of my pack. I guess my biggest pet peeve is all these videos of just camping under a tarp. No floor, no netting, 2 open sides.
Where I live, especially in the summer, I have to worry about ticks, spiders and mosquitoes eating you alive. I guess you can tell I'm a tent camper. I might attempt a tarp camp in the winter, but I would probably freeze to death unless I had a Siberian log fire all night and it's too cold to worry about all the creepy crawlies.
