My ‘87 Lincoln Town car used a metal can as a reservoir. In three years the seam rusted open and caused the same problem.

question is what was wrong with having a cable operated duct? why did vacuum or an electric motor come about?

Back in the 1970s I had a Ford Pinto that did this same thing every time I pushed hard on the gas pedal.
