2024 BYD Seal EV - Full Review

Check out my full review of the all-new 2024 BYD Seal just launched in UK and Europe.

It comes in two flavours - 313bhp and rear-wheel drive for about £45,700 and this one - the All-wheel drive with a staggering 530bhp - thanks to two motors - capable of 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds. The rear-wheel drive will do it in 5.9 seconds and both a limited to 112mph for top speed. It's three grand more at £48,700.

It's based on the company's new E-Platform 3.0, and the first to have what they're calling cell-to-body technology - which basically means that the batter is fully incorporated into the structure, so it actually forms part of the rigidity of the car's frame.

The battery itself is BYD's blade technology, cobalt free, it's 82.5kWh, capable of 150kW DC fast charging and gives you a 323 mile range in this, though the RWD gets a little more at 354 miles.

It's 4800mm in length, 1875mm in width, and 1460mm in height and it weighs 2185kg, while the rear-wheel drive is slightly lighter at 2055kg.

The compact battery results in a 10mm lower body height, making it more conventional car-like.

Check out the sleek shape of it, it's honestly a good-looking car. Smooth too with a drag coefficient of just 0.219CD.

I really like the look of the car, and it performs brilliantly. The only issue I have with some Chinese car manufactures is their brand or model names. For the UK market they may need to get a consulant involved (like a motoring journalist with a broad international outlook😊) to guide them!

Thank you for testing the BYD Seal. It looks satisfactory for those that think an EV will fit their situation. Frankly, I think infrastructure is the bigger problem. Pricing is an issue. One reason why MG is more successful than Polestar.

I bought one here in Singapore, it's totally changed my prejudice about China car manufacturer, to be honest, I would say that it's on par with famous Germany car manufacturer or in certain areas might it's even better but with much more cheaper. A like from Singapore

It has two phases of regen, starting with the costing down with the motor, and the second happens when you use the break pedal, BUT it is still not using the actual friction brakes as it continues to use the motor untill the final stop. Its actually a very smart system that I think Audi also use.

I can't speak to whether a tesla is a better choice as I took the plunge without test driving one of those, but I can say the BYD is awesome if you haven't canceled it already. I got the Premium variant.

The Seal performance cost £33k vs the Model 3 LR £36.5k in my country. Very good deal

The led front lights flicker is a result of the fact the LED headlights and DRLs have AC current drivers. Rather than DC current. This resilting flicker can be caught by a video camera. At some AC sinewave frequencies.

This car is touted as being designed by some renowned designer.

Did he overlook how the rounded corners of the screen is not consistent between screen and bezel?
Or how the bezel of the main screen is thicker than on the small screen?
Or how the rounded corners of both screens aren't the same?

that being said, depending on the market, BYD have insisted that it's both real leather and fake leather. Doesn't really bother me much either way, just a bit laughable
