Now they have the excuse in January when they don't sign anyone. They can say we didn't have a Sporting Director in place to make that sort of move. Diabolical.

700m spent mostly on injury prone players and duds. Hes made more bad than good signings. We deserve better. Dont feel sorry for these knobheads they pick up pay cheques every week whilst we suffer every year of not winning anything.

Edu was the glorified travel agent for Beazil squad before getting the sporting director at Arsenal. Squandered the bulk of the £800M+ on dross and injury prone players.

The deal man I call him. Suspicious deals with Mendes and Joorabchan. Giving away Ozil and Auba for free and self promoting himself everywhere and undermining the Manager.

It's strange that he would be leaving at this juncture in the season. Suspicious

Big up, Dan. Love from Toronto as always. Coyg. Keep up the great work! Sad to see Edu go. He did a lot of good work.

He should’ve done better, being Brazilian and supposedly connected. Time for Arsenal to poach a true technical director.

Sky reported the club was caught off guard by this decision from Edu.

Hopefully now we get someone in who spends less time on the BBQ and more time negotiating and finalising the purchases and sales of players rather than ripping up contracts and not securing transfers that we need. We need an SD who can see weaknesses in the team and address them and who is aggressive in the transfer market. Why is it always us missing out on transfers and taking ages to get deals done when everyone else can do deals swiftly.

Now for Garlick and Arteta, clean the broken house, get some proper footballing bodies in, make this club competitive again! Best news I've heard.

As long as Arsenal improves with someone else, no problem with Edu departing

At this point, I'll never say 'X out', but the whole structure needs to figure out where it's not working. My issue with Edu is that the line about it being an exciting summer transfer window came from him, and I thought it was very reactionary rather than well-planned. Maybe it's just me, but I saw Calafiori and Merino as becoming targets only during/after those first performances in the Euros - Edu and Arteta would need to have had a crystal ball, palm reading, and tarot reading to target them both before that. I think they got away with those, and Sterling was a sh*t show. I don't know if or who there were other actual targets and why or how it went wrong, but it's gone very wrong in a very short period of time and they need to figure that out before it gets even more toxic.

This is very surprising news. It appears that Edu has decided to jump ship to Nottingham Forest. For what reason exactly, we don't know. There is no point in speculating. I wish him well and thank him for his efforts at our club. What's important for Arsenal is we now have an opportunity to move forward with a new sporting/technical director. This could be a positive move for everyone involved. It will be interesting to see what will unfold in the coming weeks.

Must admit I joined in on the Edu hate when the players he signed didn't seem to be that good, still think Zinny is a bad signing because his performances were bound to drop, some players can still play well when they get older but to give Zinny a long term contract is a mistake. I am not sure what hurdles Edu had to face when he signed players, e.g. things like who is available? how much will they cost? what are their wage demands? do they want to come to Arsenal? Not all top players would be willing to come to Arsenal because it is seen by some as a "nearly" club, a club that nearly does so well, also a club that should be challenging for the Champions League but can't quite make it! However Edu and Arteta need to take some of the blame because they have signed too many old players, whose performances have been dropping, if they were going to give these players a chance, then only give them a 1 year contract and get rid of them next summer. There was a reason why Wenger only gave older players a 1 year contract, because he knew that players performances drop as they get older especially at 28. I can't believe how we suffered so much when we couldn't get rid of Ozil who didn't want to leave because he was on extremely high wages which he knew he would never get anywhere else.

I think Calafiori has been alright glimpses of being great he needs more time even Gabriel Magalhães went from fans wanting him out to one of the very best.
