Last year people were getting free money and if you were unemployed you were getting more than you made at your job. This year we have the lowest unemployment ever but people have had to go back to work. Gas is high but that started in 2019 when the Saudi's flooded the world with oil and many US producers were forced out of business. Then the pandemic hit, people didn't drive or travel and there was a glut of oil. Fact in March 2020 Oil hit an all time low of -$3 dollars per barrel. Everything shut down because of Covid disrupting supply chains. Now a war in the Ukraine is causing supplies of oil to tighten. The Federal Reserve was running their QE and kept interest rates at record lows making money easy to get for loans causing inflation. Next the Fed has started to raise rates to cool the economy down and soon a hard landing or a recession will be felt and gas prices will come down again, but Many will be out of work. No one could have predicted the roller coaster and Biden is doing a good job in a difficult situation.
