uses windows 7 as a host, installs virtualbox and uses it command line "to save memory" and adds ssh to manage win 7 server ?!

I used a simple website to upload and download files from. It's hosted from a VM and only accessible on LAN. It's like a cloud server(if you can even call it that) The files are stored on one of the PCs. I can upload files from android devices with it.

You don't need that much disc space. Never allocate 100% to a VM up front, the chance of all of them using 100% is effectively zero.

It's dangerous to split the cores of a CPU, since they are part of the same chip they share resources such as cache. But in some cases can also cause throttling of each other. Don't do the math expecting dedicated cores, that is not the way task switching works.

You should really be using linux along side KVM instead of windows / virtual box.

I was thinking about launching 10 virtual machines at one time with around 2-3 different servers. I found a awesome server from a rep company on ebay. The machine as pretty good specs 4 amd quad core processors 32gb ram 5tb of hard drive space. Also the price is good to 250$ +75$ for shipping.

Yes, you do go through the steps rather quickly. I always wonder why tutors do this - because they themselves are very savvy and expect those they are tutoring to to have acquired a good level of savvy-ness. I mean you certainly can't be tutoring to the general public with little knowledge otherwise that would make you geek and stupid at the same time. What's the point doing a tutorial like this when you could have catered for a much wider audience but in short you catered to a niche audience. I just wanted to try and get up running a virtual server for my P2P stuff and wanted to know about privacy if using it with a VPN but instead I get this. Thanks!!!

i willl probably use a xen server instead of the full windows box with virtual box installed. the only problem is that citrix still do not provide a control interface for other os than windows

I liked this... Have I got this right? So, with this VirtualBox you can effectively create a virtual server and x-number of virtual clients that have their own allocated memory, cpu- core and of course drive space on the hard drive? Smart!
BTW, do any conflicts arise between Windows and the OS running the virtual server, say Linux.

Just pointing out that you said 4GB of ram but only gave it 4000MB. Ram uses base 2 numbering so 4GB is 4096MB
