What I love the most about Morimoto isn't his cooking skills, as amazing as they might be....it's his humility and down to Earth mentality in how he approaches food. I saw an interview where he said if a customer wants something and I can make it, why not make it for them? Even if they ask for ketchup in my restaurant...they came here to enjoy the food and if ketchup would make them enjoy it more, give it to them.

Fun fact: king crab aren't actually crabs. They are merely crab like crustaceans, but arent very closely related. There's this process in nature callcalled carcinization, which details how crustaceans all inevitably converge upon the same design as crabs. Hermit crabs are another example, they arent crabs either.

Amazing how far Nick has come from his days in master chef. He seemed so unsure here, but I recently watched a video of him making an incredible dish with king crab. What a lad!

Morimoto did not talk much, everyone was lazer focused on Ramsay, yet you can catch glimpses of Ramsay watching Morimoto.

It makes me believe that even a seasoned chef watched other people he respects to take in and perhaps learn something, or doing the exact same thing in a different, possibly easier or more efficient way.

Thats what Morimoto and Gordon have in common: they both respect the ingredients.

Morimoto has come a long way since I first knew of him. He was on the OG Iron Chef, then Iron Chef America, now he's hanging out with Gordon Ramsay.

In the 50's I lived in Palmer Alaska, Dad used to stop at the docks in Anchorage and get one once in a while. They were $1.00 right off the boat and the size was a good deal bigger than this. We were a family of 9 and one King Crab would feed the whole family. The best Crab, no doubt.

Crab, especially king crab in general is to die for! I have had king crab once and it was hands down, one of the single best things I've ever eaten in my life. Period.

First you rip apart this $500, roughly 15 years old, crab.
"Wow!"
Then you put it back together.
"Whoa!"
Done.
"Oh my!"

Look, I love to cook & love a well cooked meal.
But watching a master in their craft is always a treat, no matter what it is. I’ll never be at Gordon’s level, but it’s so satisfying to watch.
