A Scene from EL SUR

Ten years after making his mark on Spanish cinema with THE SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE, Víctor Erice returned to filmmaking with this adaptation of a novella by Adelaida García Morales, which deepens the director’s fascination with childhood, fantasy, and the legacy of his country’s civil war. In the North of Spain, Estrella grows up captivated by her father, a doctor with mystical powers—and by the enigma of his youth in the South, a near-mythical region whose secrets haunt Estrella more and more as time goes on.

My favorite scene from the most beautiful spanish films ever made. I think it may seem easy or simple to make this scene, but to capture that nostalic feeling for family? The lost memory of good, simpler, happy times?... Only cinema masters can do that... As a Spanish person, this gets me every time.

Has been two weeks since I discovered this Gem of a Film.. Still under the influence, drunk of Erice’s Poetry.

It amazes me how this movie is not among the best in the BFI survey.
