Hi All, thank you so much for watching! DISCLAIMER: I changed the personality of the teacher to make a funny sketch. I didn't want to impersonate, so I created a character that was a fusion of Miranda Priestly and Mr. Miyagi, which is not at all how Mrs. Redick acted or spoke. She was quite lively and energetic, she never sat still stoically, and while she was very tough on us, she was also loving and nurturing. The purpose of this video was to highlight the creative things she did to teach ballet technique, while also making fun of Miranda-type people. All for the sake of the art of sketch-making. Hope this helps!

My first ballet teacher was so toxic and demeaning, I quit ballet after only a year due to the amount of fear and shame she endowed on me. It was years later at a different studio when my dance director finally was able to earn my trust enough to convince me to try ballet again. And the ballet teacher there was so incredible. Same as here, she was tough, and her classes made you sweat and gasp for air, but she was also so warm and encouraging and CREATIVE! She never let me quit halfway and I am the person that I am because of her. I love that woman, she changed the way I view dance, but she also lifted up the way I see myself. ❤️

The water quote was brilliant, and the apple made me almost fall of my chair!
Brilliant out of the box teaching techniques often seem ridiculous, but they tend to work miracles.

I do cheerleading but I think ballet is beneficial for any sport taught me how to have a really good posture while doing tumbling etc.

This was very interesting to watch...I knew ballerinas had to go through some intense training and I believe that most of it has a reason behind it, but it seems a bit too much at times...I went to music school and there were also some weird practices around that you can't help but wonder if they are legit or someone is just ordering it for their own amusement...art teachers are actually tought you'all!

It's kinda unnerving how many people in here in the comments seem to think is an example of a good teacher. It's not. This is, however a great example of a toxic teacher. Your teacher should never demean you or make fun of you, especially for making mistakes. It's not ok, and never will be.

When I was in ballet, I had weak arms and wasn't holding them up properly at Barre. So my teacher took the lid off her bubble tea, handed it to me, told me to hold it while I did my exercises (thankfully I could keep my arm in first and second lolll), and if I spilled it she would be upset and I would have to clean it up.

It worked. I didn't spill it and my arms never drooped quite as much anymore

Yeah, no. toxic is putting a marble in your shoe under your arch because you’re flat footed and need to learn to stop rolling your ankles inward.

My experience with tough teachers was quite different. Though it was made clear a lot was expected from me in the way of effort and dedication and of course respect for them and the practice, at no time were they ever demeaning or disrespectful to me in a personal way
And because of this I treasure my time as a student in their hands. They also modeled behavior I could take with me in my day to day interactions with others. No doubt this method played out in the vid can work but really I think it is cruel and unnecessary, that’s just my opinion. No doubt your teacher was accomplished and had many successes, though this post may sound disrespectful, it is certainly not meant to be a personal attack. She is a product of her training and times. I hope that her students find more emotionally healthful ways to teach. And produce even better dancers. Let us end this oppressive method.

I have done the reading while laying in the straddle stretch and I did laugh at her holding onto your standing leg like a tree

*Why did this remind me so much of childhood?!* The paper, the flame, the fire hydrant 😂 all things tchrs tell u to imagine! All that was missing was her putting the teacup on her calves in attitude balances, drizzling drops of water down her arms, and dancing while holding a hamburger to mock her hand placement
