Long Range Yagi Antenna 19 Element 2 4GHz #34

Yagi Antenna 19 Element (Yagi in a drainpipe)!
Easy build Yagi that gives at least 15dbi. A long range antenna for 2.4 ghz wifi 802.11 b/g/n frequencies. Yagi antennas exhibit a narrow beamwidth and high front to back ratios to help minimise any potential interference to and from other systems.

That has got to be the smartest yagi design I have ever seen. I worry about the center support screwing up the signal because it too is made of metal, but you completely eliminated that. Well done.

That's a folded dipole. The impedance in nominally 300 ohms. The SMA connector is 50 ohm. There should be a matching network.

I love Yagi antennas, and I appreciate all your work, Thank You!

Tip: You can use the side of a Bic lighter, or other hard plastic with a smooth rounded part, to smooth out bubbles in the tape.

I really like your videos. Found this channel recently. Yagi antennas are very directional.

I like how you used packaging tape to increase the thickness of your block of wood to 5 millimeters

Hi Andrew and excellent work. Without the exact dimensions of the YAGI elements and the spacing between them the information in the Templates is useless because different Printers will produce a different image. Grateful if you could supply the exact dimensions.

Thanks

Andreas

The folded dipole antenna has a theoretical impedance of 300 ohm so if the coax is 50 ohm, you are not getting a proper match and hence best signal. If I were building this antenna, I would've stuck with the foil for the driven element, with the split in the middle the impedance is closer to 50 ohm.

Fantastic video, please do an updated and larger one than this for the fun of it in 2023

Do you measure the VSWR of your antenna ? I would build one for sure later.

hi Chris
when i build antennas for 2.4ghz i make then tuned to the centre of the wifi spectrum channel 6 2.437. The difference between 2410 to 2510 is around 0.5mm. The yagi is a good choice if you are using in an area with a lot of interference but the helical antenna works better with video and can cut through obstacles like trees much better. a good setup would be, cloverleaf on plane TX helical on ground RX. hope this helps

Thank you very much for these videos. I just have one question before I start building my own antenna, what is the strongest antenna you have ever built ? and can I find a tutorial on how you made it on you channel ?
Thank you very much,

great video. I wish i had one of those. Something like this would cost a lot in the store. i really enjoyed this video :)

Interesting design. I wouldn't have thought about using copper or aluminum tape. What is the SWR, bandwidth, and power handling of this antenna?

Have you published the actual spacing and width of elements in case the drivers and conversions for paper sizes don't come out perfect?   Thanks!

Of course it helps Andrew, thanks much, I will get the material for the helical and cloverleaf. I have need of a high gain Wfi also as it turns out. Too bad it takes so long for the delivery. Live in the rural zone. And even in the town of 300, 000 there is no electronics supply. TskTsk... Regards, C

Andrew I know this video is 9 years old and I'm not sure if you answer questions from this far back. Anyway my question is with this perspex/copper foil style yagi do you need to connect a balun. I've seen you fixing baluns on production yagi's but not connecting them to your own. I it necessary and If I wanted to connect a balun would you have link how to do it. Regards Sam
