This is the exact video I was looking for but found options very disappointing on Google's end.
The only two options for input are the keyboard and camera.
No voice to text or live transcribe is a huge disappointment.

Hi, thanks for the video, although I´m still unclear if this app works if I´m offline, and by this I mean with no wifi or 5G, say airplane mode, cuase so far I can´t get it to work in conversation mode with mic, however, it does work for writing only, but not for speaking and this is what I need in case I´m walking randomly around a city with no wifi. It would be great if you can guide me with this, otherwise I will have to buy a small machine that translates in real time and avoid this app all together.

Can't get Google translate to translate Spanish offline. I just get a message. "No internet connection".

Is there any way to get the "Conversation" option to work when the "Flight Mode" is activated???? I am using a Samsung A50 which works perfectly when wifi is on or wifi is off and mobile data is on (whilst here in my country, the UK) but when I activate "flight mode", the conversation option returns a "This feature isn't available offline" message.

I understood that Google Translate would work (more or less) as a stand-alone language translator but maybe I'm misunderstanding this

I have downloaded the other language (in my case, Portuguese) and every works correctly UNTIL I activate flight mode. I did this as I imagine that, when I'm in Brazil, I will not have any wifi nor data as would not be connected to any of their networks. I would only want to use my phone SOLELY for this conversational option.

Hi there - I loved how you explained everything BUT, when I'm using a SAMSUNG A50 and wanted to "test" how the "Conversation" option would work.

WHILST I WAS CONNECTED TO WIFI (or MOBILE DATA (but with WIFI disabled) it worked perfectly and enabled me to speak in English and translated perfectly to Portuguese (in my case) - BUT, when I activated "Flight mode" (to simulate how my phone would be in a totally different country (in my case, Brazil), the "conversation" option, when selected, gave me "this feature isn't available offline" message and I have NOT been able to get my phone to work in this way.

It could be that I am misunderstanding how Google Translate should work when in a totally foreign country (i.e..with no wifi nor mobile data) but I understood that it would work "solely" as a stand-alone language translator using it's downloaded languages (in my case, English as my mother tongue and Portuguese as a downloaded language).

I have searched the internet and have found several entries about this problem and just wondered if you had "suffered" this at any time, whether it could be a Samsung issue (which I doubt) but, to date, I've still not been able to get this to work (in Flight mode).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm planning to return to Brazil as soon as this pandemic subsides sufficiently!!
