Love this idea! I have been trying to read more lately, and it's been helpful. Also, I love the inclusion of a Mountain Goats lyric! Lastly, the term hopepunk is my new favorite, and I will now need to put it in my Discord bio and plaster it all over town.

I am excited for this! I may not be able to keep up reading wise (we'll see) but I am always here for the thoughtful discussions. I've also been meaning to read The City We Became by NK

this is such a lovely idea !! not sure if ill be able to join in with the actual reading but i might still pop in to the livestreams & watch the chat!! i always think of hope as a kind of muscle, one i need to rest & relax & one that i sometimes need to work hard to use!! anyway thanks for always making such thoughtful & intentional videos. ur presence in the world is lovely 💖

I love this. These days I have a need for hope that borders on desperation. I'm already looking for a copy of the first book, and even that tiny hint of direction has boosted my mood considerably. Looking forward to discussing it!

Oh i love this! After reading all of Becky Chambers books I’ve been craving more hopepunk books. If you have future seasons I’d like to recommend the book The Actual Star by Monica Byrne. I don’t know if other people would classify it as hopepunk but it definitely left me with the same feelings of thinking about the future differently. It follows three time lines, one of which is in the year 3012 where is post-climate change, nation state, and capitalism and everyone lives nomadic lives and uses fugitech (technology developed by climate refugees). I just finished the book and can’t stop thinking about it!

I'm so excited for this! It is definitely something I need right now, too 💚

I'm definitely joining.
My apartment is so loud, the walls are very thin, the doors are crooked and every neighbour owns a bass box. I havent been reading, even if i get books I'm actually really hyped to read.

This is a fantastic idea! Feels very fitting after a really discouraging election result here in Sweden. I am impressed (as always) of my local libary for having 3/4 titels available - and I am looking forward to reading along!

Love this project and excited about these books!

I can't wait for the first book club! This is something that my soul definitely hungered for but that I wouldn't have known how to articulate or ask for.

Solid idea. Hopepunk is really what we got left.

This sounds really really cool I'd definitely be in the camp of folks who aren't used to talk about books but I'd love to learn more about how help things get a bit better. Because yeah it's been pretty hard not to feel hopeless in a broad political sense.

And a Hamilton reference! I write (and read) my way out :) I’m in for the book club!!

AFAIK/googled/read the bystander effect isn't as big a thing as it having a name makes it appear; which is to say i don't think hope is useless. I'd never tell anyone to have hope - gross! - but i think it can be the seed of change, not a barrier against it. I'm interested in all the books you've mentioned though lol, I'm just defensive about my boo hope.

totally legit if not but wondering if you're gonna give any content warnings cause i found the sexual violence in The City We Became viscerally disturbing and def wouldn't recommend it to someone I don't know well without mentioning the potential triggering content
