PS5 Pro - The PS5 Killer

The PS5 Pro continues to impress but in the latest round of marketing, I found myself shocked at their approach and the aggression behind it. What I once called a mid gen leap I'm now starting to seeing as a generational shift and I can't help but think it will be the PS5 killer.

The PS5 Pro will definitely have the advantage of utilizing its specs for enhancements but I still think the OG PS5 is still an Amazing System.

In my 35 years as a gamer, the ps5 Pro will be the first console I've bought on the release day. Sure, I have an 825 gig disk drive unit, but I also have a really nice TV and want the best visuals I can get on it. The Pro is cheap by comparison!

What kind of BS is this? Gamers still have to choose. Look at AW2: want basic RT below the lowest of PC settings? Welcome back to 30fps. The modes aren't going anywhere. The Pro can't even handle RT in that game and it'll keep getting worse again just like it was with the PS5. At best, you'll be getting the old Fidelity modes at circa 60fps, which is not that much of a difference, apart from Rebirth because Squeenix just took the piss. Why do you think they haven't shown any UE5 games? Because the results won't be as impressive and they know it. Sure, they'll be better than on the PS5 because of PSSR mostly but It's easy to make older games that already run very well look a bit sharper and with more FX. Let's see how the problem children run, shall we? The reality is that the Pro is a 700$ AI upscaler and that is its main selling point, not the raster uplift because that on its own is still not enough to deliver consistent 60fps and RT or more advanced effects with a subpar CPU like Zen2. Maybe in some games and rather minor applications of the tech.

I mean I'm all in on the Pro and will get one at some point (not on release, they haven't shown anything groundbreaking yet) but this is getting ridiculous, you make it seem like this is going to be a TRANSFORMATIVE experience and it just won't be and I bet you everything that PSSR will slowly start becoming a crutch for lazy devs and THIS is what will kill the PS5, not the Pro itself.

This makes sense. Technology advances too quickly for an 8 year life cycle. Mid gen jumps may be more of a requirement moving forward.

I've been a pc gamer since the late 90s....I never thought much about console gaming. My lady surprised me with a ps5 around a year ago. I cannot express how much I love my PS5. The Pro certainly sounds appealing, but for now I'm happy with what I currently own.

If you love games and you love the best experience then this is the way to go. As someone who owned all systems that is what I'm going for. I am a graphics nut but now with the added performance in FPS this is no brainer for those who love the best experience possible. Just bring the games along with it. Showing games that we have already played does not win me over. Looking forward to what is coming next. Advance with the advancement of new PRO games.

You make some very valid points, but I can’t help but think that this is a pre holiday marketing push. If you are going to purchase a PS5 this would definitely make me choose the more expensive one, the Pro.

I'd be a lot more excited about the PS5 Pro if it wasn't for the fact that it costs $1300 (with a disc drive) in my country. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I could get one for the $780 it costs in the US, but there's just no way I'm paying this much.

Got a second job to pay for my pro. Gonna get it day one. Pretty excited was not able to get the base ps5 on day one with this being the first generation I was blessed to afford it.

With the way technology moves I don't mind these mid generation consoles at all, as a matter of fact they should stick with it going forward. Waiting 7 to 8 years for a new console nowadays is way too long. I'm Still rocking my PS4 Pro and waiting for my PS5 Pro to get dropped off.

I dont think it is "PS5 killer", I think this new bullish approach is a result of this being their second go-round for a mid-gen refresh. The PS4 Pro was a half-step. This is true jump and they want people to know it. Tech moves too fast for them to be stuck on a set of specs drawn up in 2019. Sony want to be more agile.

This is what the Series S and Series X were supposed to be, two price points separated only by fidelity. This is iPhone 16 vs 16 Pro, not iPhone 16 vs 15.

I see the release of the Pro as a standard that started with the PS4. Take what people wanted better then the base PS5 and give us and developers what we want in a console. I think this is gonna be how Sony proceed with console generations moving forward to keep up with tech and trends.

I saw a hilarious article yesterday talking about the new Mac mini being cheaper and better than the pro. It’s 599$. The Mac’s have like 4 AAA games. It comes with 256 gigs of memory. Apple charges 800$ for the 2TB upgrade. Apple is charging 100$ more than the pro just for the memory that the pro comes with.
