I HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS #shorts

This is a great example of why I never rate foods a 0 or a 1. It’s really important to keep an open mind. It’s also really important to remember that things can be prepared in different ways and just because I may not like one type of cheese, doesn’t mean I won’t like all cheese.
For someone with ARFID, this can be really difficult. When I don’t like something, my brain automatically tells me that I will never like it in any other way and that’s where my thoughts get stuck.
From my initial exposure I had a really hard time with the melted cheese, everything about it. I worked on quesadillas with my therapist for many months. We worked with different types of cheese so that I can be exposed to different flavors and textures. It was such a struggle and I didn’t understand why I had to keep doing it.
My therapist would reassure me that she knows my limits and knows how far she is able to push me, and that she was confident that I may learn to like it one day. I had really bad anxiety before every session, but I kept at it.
I finally got to the point where I was able to be okay with it, and even order it at a restaurant and like it. It wasn’t a safe food, but a food I could eat.
We started making them at home with the same cheese they used at the restaurant and I am so proud to say that it has now officially become a safe food.
This is a perfect example of progress. All of the foods I have tried during this journey that have become safe foods are foods that became safe on the first time trying it. The quesadilla is a food that started as a food I didn’t like, and turned into a safe food because of my many exposures and trying it in different ways.
“Just because something is hard, doesn’t mean it’s impossible!” You got this!
