Root crops are so fun to harvest, but they aren't always all that pretty. The Watermelon Radish has a surprise up its sleeve, though.

While it doesn't look special on the outside, the inside is incredible! This gorgeous variety is one of my favorites and our best-sellers.

The best news? Radishes are SUPER easy to grow, and they're some of the fastest vegetables to grow. Some varieties are ready to harvest in as few as four weeks.

Not a fan of that spicy radish flavor? Try a milder flavor or soak your slices in water for 15 minutes before eating them.

You can eat all of the roots after being washed off. And for the leaves, rough leaves can be cooked and the smooth leaves can be eaten raw.

Where is the seed for the radishes? Like you cut away the flowers and seeds before pulling the roots?

Yes cook all including leaves or fermented, make soups etc

Fermentation also both lowers the spice bite AND increases the nutritional value.

Great tip about soaking them in water to reduce their spiciness !

German giant and crimson giant both get very large stay tender and crispy.. they keep well in the fridge. I use them to provide shade for other plants that are slow to germinate.

I have the exact opposite problem with radishes I want them spicier. I only ever seem to get mild ones I’m trying to find my perfect spicy radish ❤

You can cook radish gratin too. No spicy left after cooking.

I've had radishes that were boiled like potatoes. Very mild then.

The melon ones are sweeter than the normal one. Oh and have you tried stir fried with a tiny amount of water and salt? It removes the spiciness and it's yummy too

Cubed they can be fried like potatoes and put with potato dices raw and baked for 30 minutes or tender in a foil pouch with salt, pepper and a spritz of olive oil. To make it a meal break raw egg on top and cook for 10 more minutes. Delicious. Tops make a good soup with chicken broth.

So watermelon radishes are actually the milder version of a regular red radish. Personally I don't care for radishes but the watermelon radish is more pleasant to the taste.

How do you fight bugs that eat redish leaves?
