Earlier today at a town hall event in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Elon Musk shared exciting details and timelines for SpaceX’s Mars mission! Musk revealed that in just two years, SpaceX plans to launch the first Starship rockets to Mars during the next planetary alignment. The initial wave will be unmanned, but if all goes well, a crewed mission will follow 26 months later.

He explained that a self-sustaining Mars colony will require thousands of Starships to transport people and cargo—an ambitious goal that depends on making each launch cost-effective and Starship fully reusable.
