When you think “omg that looks hard”
But realize you’ve already passed those lessons.

No wrong way of getting to the right answer as long as you show your work, excellent example of just that!

As a math nerd I can tell you there are many ways to arrive at a solution and all ways are valid as long as the fundamental principles are followed. :) This is exactly how I would solve these

The mixed number thing is so straightforward you don't need to do anything it is there

Actually helpful for leaving a 20% tip. Just move the decimal 1 back and multiply by 2. For example 20% of 44 is the same as 2x4.4 which is $8.8

For the subtraction one, that’s litterally what you’re supposed to do.

I wish my math was that easy lmao. I mean it still is but that looks more fun.

I'm a math student and just do it the way you remember it as long as you're getting it correct lmao

That's EXACTLY how you (and every one else) do it

The first one only works for numbers that have 0 in the units place. It is far easier to just turn the percentage into a fraction over 100 and then multiply seeing as you are multiplying anyway. The second one only works if the whole number is 1. You would have to know that if the difference is still greater than the denominator then you need to subtract again, and the whole number needs to increase. This is the same as explaining that "10 goes into 17 once with a remainder of 7", but in more steps...

I tried to do stuff like this in highschool and I got half credit for not doing it the right way. Got yelled at. Got held after class. Got put in ISS for arguing with the teacher that my way always works and is easier. Failed algebra 2 once. Got Ds in algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2 the second time. I was also undiagnosed autistic and dyslexic but I just got punished, no help because I was a "bright student" just constantly "misbehaving" and "going against the instructions". 😔
