Stringing/pruning indoor hydroponic tomatoes week 3 #Tomatoes #Hydroponics

It’s been about three weeks since we transferred these tomatoes into their hydroponic buckets, we have not watered them since then. Today we are going to go through and pruning any suckers or sun leaves that don’t get good light, and stringing them up to our three top ropes to create a bit of a layer in the rows of tomatoes. We have both, determinate and indeterminate varieties. We will be removing all suckers and topping eventually when they get too tall on both varieties. Tomatoes have two kinds of leaves sun leaves and suckers. Suckers want to become an entire another tomato plant and grow in between the main stem and the sun leaves. Removing all of them will keep the plant to one main stem. I do not change the light schedule or a temperature so they think it’s the same time of year all year round. Pruning them can help signal flowering, as we are controlling the environmental impacts indoors. Tomatoes don’t care what light schedule they get to flower, since they are day neutral. If you’re wondering how we got them to this point we post an entire video of us saving them up. We will check back again when we go to water at around 4 to 5 week point thank you for watching. Have a great day!

Looks great! If you guys are going to grow more tomatoes, look up the dwarf tomato project. A lot of small tomato plants that grow great in hydroponic setups and the fruits have a ton of varieties, sizes, and shapes!

Mine are outside liven on the Oregon Coast. Id show you but can't figure out how. They would show you that not all tomatoes are created equal. They are clones in hydroponics. My first year with hydroponics. Playing with 64 buckets mixing a lot.
