Dad Revisits His Glory Days - 1976 Buick Skyhawk Project Car

Today we're introducing the new personal/shop project; a 1976 #Buick #Skyhawk.

Back in the day, Jimmie (The Cleaning Guy) had a V8 Chevy that got him around town, to and from school, and even made a few passes down at Bandimere Speedway!

That was just one of many cars he had, but this Buick Skyhawk should be a fun project for the father & son to tackle as an introduction to drag racing for Nicolaus, and a revival of the "glory days" for Jimmie!

It won't be the fastest car by today's standards, but compared to the cars Jimmie was building in the late 70's and early 80's, it should be quick!

Another thought; there are a ton of race cars, builders, etc that get shown on YouTube with huge budgets. $70k+ engines, and that much more in the car before it ever goes to the track. I would venture to guess that a good majority of people who are interested in drag racing and motor sports in general don’t have the budget for that… so maybe this series will be a little easier to relate to for those of us who can’t spend more than an entire years salary on their hobby…

Nothing against the ones who do have money for it… but just because you can spend more money and go 5 seconds faster doesn’t mean we won’t have just as much fun!

Okay... It's probably not ready for Bandimere yet lol... But it's time to quit making excuses and get this thing done before another 6+ years goes by!

Oh yes, we need to see the cleaning guy realize another dream from his youth. I have a feeling this car will be a beast! It would be interesting to hear the cook's take on all this extracurricular activity being planned.

I find this 'normal life' stuff pretty interesting actually. Reminds me of my own racing youth, always poor as a church mouse with 20 cents left in my pocket every payday. Yes, I would be interested in seeing this car built for sure. I am somewhat surprised you guys are not ace welders though, given all your other talents.

Guys you will absolutely break that 7.5 reared by the 3rd pass with any kind of traction. There’s a company called autoweldchassis that makes a bolt in Ford 9” for the Monza/H body cars. 4:10 and a 2800 stall and you’ll be in the low 11s with your 400. I’ve had several of them. DO IT!! Love the channel

That's a cool car that Buick Star fire. My Uncle when I was young had a Chevy Monza Spyder and it had a V8 in it and that thing was fast from what I remember it would do great smoke shows burning the tires off the thing. I always wanted to get one and put a grand national turbo 3.8 in it because if a GN car go fast imagine what them cars would do since it's a smaller car

Had a 77 Oldsmobile starfire sx, factory V8 TH 350, loved it, good mpg, quiet, SMOOTH, excellent aerodynamics, put 320, 000 miles near trouble free. Even in the 1980s parts were getting somewhat hard to find. Wish I had it still...

You guys need to do this. You will cherish this time and experience together in the future. Dont let excuses ruin this.

You guys should look into an 8.8 from a foxbody mustang. It should be close to the width you need. It needs 35 splines and a full spool with 9” housing ends it will be more than what you will need!
