Thank you for ending my search for a Wi-Fi trail camera and starting my search for a Wi-Fi security camera

Good info! I have been looking for a trail cam to put anywhere from 50 feet to 300 feet or so from my house and would simply like to be able to connect it to my phone when I am within range, but there is not a lot of info to be found. Amazon search is very deceptive! Thank you for making this video, it is the first one I have found that provided me with a shred of valuable information.

Thank you for clearing up the wi-fi issue. I too believed it would connect to my internet.

As I looked at them, my suspicions were raised as to their "wifi" capabilities. Thanks for spelling it out with no nonsense!

I know people that bought wifi cams, because they thought they can connect to a network. So this is a good video to see.

Thank you so much for this information! I just spent most of the day trying to figure out why I can’t get this trail camera to connect. Wish I would have found you in the morning, would have saved me a lot of frustration!

Thanks for posting this. The advantage of the Reolink wifi cameras is that you can live stream or watch recordings on your phone, tablet *or* PC. In other words, they really do connect to your home wifi and are accessible from anywhere you have an Internet connection. Their mobile and PC apps work very well. The disadvantage is that it takes some massaging of the detection AI in the app to get the camera to act like a trail camera; most of these cameras are designed for security, as you mentioned. Reolink does have a solar-powered trail camera (Keen Ranger PT) but it is cellular. Hopefully they will expand their lineup soon to include a wifi version.

First thing I noticed when I set my new camera up. Thank you for confirming what I see. I’m going to try it but will likely send it back because of this.

Thanks! I am a beginner to trail cams; bought one to try get video of the otters on our farm. It was 'wifi', and I couldn't figure it out. You have helped explain this, bigtime!

Glad I found this video.
I need one I can access on the fly and there’s no cellular connection on the property. I was wondering why no one could answer that question if they were WiFi l ready.
Now I know.
Thank you!

Thank you for clearing this up. I have even had sales people try to tell me that these trail cams can hook to one's wifi router. It's good to know this is a broadcasting device, that broadcasts wifi rather than to receive the signal like a phone, laptop, or other wifi capable device. I was thinking about getting one under the wrong assumption, but decided to do a little recon first. Glad I found your channel. Just subbed.

🙋‍♂️Guilty as charged! Thanks for clearing this up and ending my frustrating attempts on trying to get this to connect with my Wi-Fi. It’s still easy enough though to grab the memory card and watch it from the computer.

Thanks for this, where I’m putting a trail cam has no cell signal and I want to be able to use this exactly as you described, and also am thankful for you making sure people understand what they are and AREN’T getting.

Interesting. I gave up looking for wifi trail cams a long time (years) ago because I couldn't find any. Everything wireless at the time was cellular, and there is no service where I would use them. Turns out, my use case is exactly what these cameras provide for. I'd like to mount them remote, up high, out of reach of d-bags, and put them on solar. That way, I don't have to climb a tree to every cam I want to check, download, & reset. Good info about the multiple steps (including BT to activate the AP) and how slow they seem to be. Thanks for the great info!

That is why many of these 'trail' cameras are nonsensical scams; Just buy a wifi reolink (even solar-powered if so desired) outdoor cam and they DO connect to your 2.4 Wireless home AP, and they CAN be watched live via the reolink app *without* even having to use the internet, without having to pay for storage etc. We have about 5 different reolink cams, and they all work just fine over quite long distances from the wireless AP, even. Of course, the further away they are, the lower the speed, but you can then set the framerate really low, or set resolution or bitrate lower, whatever you prefer, and then they still work like a charm. The only thing you pay extra for is the silly camo look on those wildlife cams, but with some creativity you can paint and DIY your reolinks to look perfectly camouflaged in nature.

The reason to buy one of these cameras is so you don’t have to keep climbing up the tree
