What’s going on outside? 😲😲😲

It is a naughty pepper 🌶 trying to scare the passers-by.
There’s a policeman 👮‍♀️ watching him… what is he going to do? Is he getting a soap? How the soap can help?

Do you want to know how to scare this pepper away??

Let’s do a science experiment!

You will need:

1. Plate
2. Liquid soap
3. Ground pepper
4. Some water

Steps:
1. Fill the shallow plate with enough water to reach the edges.
2. Sprinkle pepper into the water.
3. Put some soap on the tip of your finger and immediately touch the water in the center of the plate. You will see the pepper moving quickly from the center of the plate to the edges.

How cool is it!! Do you know that the same happens with the germs?? When you wash your hands with a soap, all germs are running away!

Explanation:

Pepper is hydrophobic. It means it fears water! Pepper doesn’t dissolve or mix into water because it doesn’t want to be there!

Since water molecules are strongly attracted to each other (like a magnet!), it keeps the pepper afloat.

Adding some soap breaks down the surface tension and as water molecules spread out away from the soap, they take the pepper with them.
