I've never done a book box subscription for the exact same reasons.
I did sign up for Sanderson's secret projects. It was great. Tress is such a lovely, lovely fairy-tale-like story.

I have BOTM, but usually skip...I use my birthday month freebie to snag up a book or three that I want. I subscribed to Once Upon A Book Box for a few years, and they were great, not too pricey at the time, but many of the books didn't appeal and honestly I gave most of the "gifts" to my little grandkids to play with. I think the gifts are better now, but the price is higher as well.

Hi Mitzi -- this is definitely your kind of book subscription. I've been a member of this one for about a year now, and Katie (and team) does such a great job putting together the items with the selected book. She's had a few boxes with the Chiltern edition books - which are beautiful. I think the March box is The Hounds of the Baskervilles. ( it is quarterly - but the website has some other items, and some seasonal boxes outside of the subscription ones ). Another box subscription I would like to try ( and seems like one you'd enjoy ) is Small Home Comforts. Jen ( Jen's Reading Life ) has shown this one a couple times. Have a great reading week!!

One subscription I can definitely recommend is from The Mysterious Bookshop in NYC. They have a few different clubs you can join, but most are newly published books which I don't read. The series I do enjoy, however, is the American Mystery Classics. These are reprints from the Golden Age of Mystery, focusing on American authors. It's inspired by the British Library Crime Classics which I know you like. They also host a Zoom book club every month on one of the books, so it actually gets me reading them. I have discovered so many new to me authors that I love. Totally worth doing!

Mitzi, It's always such a fun time to see you share your love of books. I have joined book for the month a couple of times but them I find myself not reading the books. I am permanently unsubscribe now. I want to read more like Mitzi not much new stuff. 🤩
