The TRUTH About When To File For US Citizenship!

In this video, I'll explain the process of becoming a U.S. citizen, answering the questions you might have. To apply for citizenship, you first need to become a green card holder, which can be achieved through various ways like marriage, family sponsorship, employment, asylum, and more. Once you have your green card, the wait time to apply for citizenship depends on whether you obtained it through marriage or other means.

If you obtained your green card through marriage to a U.S. citizen, you can apply for citizenship after three years as a green card holder. For others, the wait time is five years. USCIS wants to ensure your commitment to living in the U.S., so maintaining your green card for the required duration is crucial.

The physical presence requirement mandates that you must be in the U.S. for a specific period, either 30 months (for five-year applicants) or 18 months (for three-year applicants). This requirement is strict, so make sure you meet it before applying.

Continuous residence is essential, as you cannot spend more than 180 days outside of the country per year. Exceptions apply, but be cautious to maintain your residency to avoid delays.

Having good moral character is a significant requirement. Certain criminal activities or non-criminal behaviors like not paying taxes or child support can affect your eligibility. USCIS may even revoke your green card if they discover issues during the naturalization process.

The step-by-step process for applying for citizenship includes submitting the N-400 form, attending a biometrics appointment, participating in a citizenship interview and exam, receiving a decision, and finally, taking the oath of allegiance.

You can apply 90 days before meeting the residency requirement, but ensure you've lived in the same state for at least 90 days before applying. USCIS will schedule your interview, which includes an English test, writing exam, and civics test.

After the interview, you'll receive a decision within 120 days. If denied, you can appeal. The final step is the oath of allegiance, making you a U.S. citizen.

Overall, the naturalization process typically takes between 12 to 24 months, depending on various factors. Keep in mind that becoming a U.S. citizen has both pros and cons, so consider your situation carefully before applying!

My process was very quick. I live in Delaware. I applied on Jan 8th, 2023, and attended the oath ceremony, where i was given my citizenship certificate, on May 4th. Less than 4 months.

Applied in January. They skipped the biometrics appointment and used the original data. Got my interview in mid-March. Naturalized same day! Great vlog.

People got scared of the procees, but its not as bad as people thinks. when i was about to file, people were telling to get a lawyer. i thought about it for awhile and then said to myself, i had to criminal reccord and i have been in the us 12 years on a green card without leaving, i had nothing to worry about, so i did my research, i filed myself and the process was like 1, 2, 3. i went to the interview and the lady ask me three questions of the 100 which i answerd without a hitch and that was it, i was done, i got my letter for the swearing cermony, i went early, waited for awhile and then the rest is history. i've been in the us now for 20 years now with no bad experiences.

If USCIS in Los Angeles has everything it needs from you, they may also decide on your citizenship application the same day. (If you're lucky, your Oath of Allegiance ceremony may happen then, too.) Otherwise, they'll have up to 120 days after your interview to make a decision, I meet my wife January 2017 and we applied for k1 visa and the k1 visa denied 2018 and we got married 2019 and after got married, we applying for CR1 visa I get approve and now i get the interview 04/04/2024 for citizenship and I'm still waiting for the decision more than 120 days .
We are all equal.

I already had my biometrics done when I did my Green Card. Will I still be doing this?

You said only Marriage Green Card can give you a citizenship after 3 years. Isn’t the VAWA green card another way of getting the citizenship only after 3 years? Correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks :)

Thank you for this amazing video! What happens if my green card expires while in the process of citizenship? Do I have to get another green card too?

Most important thing the video missed is the retirement income that a retiree can get with a citizen ship status.
Citizens alone are eligible for medicare at age 65. Others need to get their own medical insurance after 65 or from the date of retirement from work . Non citizens may not get the full social security benefit at their full retirement age. All the money they paid during their job as social security tax is a free donation then. If you have paid into social security for about 35 years you may get at least max 4500 $ per month in today's dispersement calculation . If you are sure that you want to be just a green card holder forever, please plan for your retirement income through personal savings or 401K plans and willing to pay medical expenses at your old age or must be able go back to your native country and settle down after retirement
