King Charles has officially appointed Sir Keir Starmer as the new UK Prime Minister, with a new picture showing the pair's first official meeting.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: "The King received in Audience The Right Honourable Sir Keir Starmer MP today and requested him to form a new Administration. Sir Keir accepted His Majesty's offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.''

As British citizen, married and living in France for well over 50 years, I am afraid I have been shocked by the past behaviour and policies coming from the House of Parliament. But right now I feel very proud of my Britishness !
In French politics there is nothing but shouting agressively at each other and mounting fear and hate. Even the television descriptions of electoral results are totally different. In France, serious and full of hate. In Britain, the atmosphere is much more relaxed and even full of humour. Please think of us in France on Sunday. The whole country is divided and fear is strongly in the air for so many reasons.
