New Zeruk Video = More Overly Deep Analysis! (Oh boy, get ready for this. I’m trying to piece everything together like a jigsaw puzzle.)

First, the animation itself and the visual clues + from the lyrics.

“I’m just so scared I let you down, ” Zeruk appears incredibly sad with the star eyes, with him becoming tearful as a spirit/ghost version of Iasa appears. Spirits are usually seen as the nonphysical form of an idea, like an emotion or someone’s soul. With this in mind, it’s likely Iasa is either inactive, abandoned Zeruk, or deceased. I’ll get more into detail about this later, but keep this in mind.

“Stick around, and you’ll find out, ” He looks sadly at Lyki until she turns into the spirit of Iasa, that soon hovers around him. Whatever happened to Iasa, the guilt of it follows him around. It’s possible he could be or feels like he’s responsible for it, and that Lyki will be next. PTSD can leave people to socially withdraw, and for the case of Lyki, he feels it’s a way to protect her from himself. There’s a fear of attachment, which the reason can vary depending on the traumatic experience. Fear of losing someone you love, fear of intimacy, fear of abandonment, not wanting to be hurt again, etc. PTSD can have a massive effect on one’s relationships, self-image, behavior, and thought process.

“Don’t you want to make me proud? Because I’m so proud. Baby, I’m so proud.” Lyki picks Zeruk up and embraces him. Despite the circumstances, whether she knows it or not, she continues to support him through and through. The way that they interact seems almost romantic, if you couple it with the lyrics of the chorus. That, or just extremely close platonic love.

Zeruk seems to reach out and wants to have something more with Lyki (romantic), but what stops him is him being thrown around by Keruz’s grasp. Based on the description, it says that this is “Season 2”. People with PTSD may want help or reach out, but are constantly stuck in a cycle of self-destruction, doubt, maladaptive habits, guilt, anger, and fear. This could mean that Season 1 ends off with Iasa’s disappearance/death/abandonment, and Season 2 will show how the guilt and trauma from it lingers Zeruk and affects where he ends up later on.


Now let’s look back at old animations and reflect as has already been shown and what could potentially be implied or shown:

Iasa and Lyki have shown to be extremely close to Zeruk (as seen in She Knows, Boy With Love, Sarcasm, etc.), with Iasa seeming concerned about Zeruk’s wellbeing. Before Lyki was introduced, Iasa is seen accompanying Zeruk regularly and comforting him (such as when she apologized before waking up him when he dissociated and dealing with Keruz, and how much she checks up on him in other animations). However, it’s likely she’s emotional and starts to fear him, like her tears in Selfish and Runaway. However, Zeruk always reassures everyone he’s fine, likely out of fear of what Keruz could do when he’s in control. Going back to Iasa’s disappearance/abandonment/death, one of three things could’ve happened: (1) Iasa became so scared of what Zeruk is becoming (not knowing anything about Keruz), and likely distanced herself from him to protect herself, (2) something unrelated to Zeruk occurred and Iasa left without a trace, but Zeruk feels responsible, or (3) Zeruk, under the control of Keruz, did something to Iasa. Now, she’s gone, even if it wasn’t him at that moment, his paws were what caused it, and he has to live with the burning pain of what he did.

Red (Kyia, Mowette) is a color present for characters that have mostly been shown to be in opposition of those in blue (Tokol, Iasa, Lyki). Red and blue mixed create purple, the color of Zeruk and Keruz. These colors could imply Zeruk being in a tug-of-war with himself and the surrounding characters. Kyia, Mowette, and Keruz have already shown to have him in their grasp, with Iasa, Lyki, and Tokol trying to lead him another way. Thus far, Kyia and Mowette have been shown to have potentially questionable motives, with the former being influenced by the latter in I am Not Insane. Kyia and Tokol likely had an extremely close relationship when they were younger, as seen in Clarity and Feels. It’s likely these two have left on a negative note, but deep down they still have ambivalent feelings towards each other. In Looking at Me, for instance, Tokol seems to be vigilant and protective of Kyia following the ideas of “him”, but Kyia doesn’t care. Kyia continues to play and mess around with Tokol (who is having none of it), similarly to how she is with Zeruk, yet seems to miss what they used to have. It’s unclear whether Tokol played a role in the downfall, or if multiple factors piled up overtime. If he did, it’s likely Tokol is trying to make amends with Kyia, which she is having none of. Like an ex trying desperately to win you back, but it ends with him looking even more pathetic. Not matter the case, ambivalence and tension rise between these two. Hating and loving each other at the same time. If Animal were to happen after Looking At Me (in Season 1 or 2), it’s likely the strain in their relationship gets worse and Kyia becomes a genuine threat, and Tokol has to drop his sentimental hopes to deal with her. I wouldn’t say that blue means good and red means bad per se, but the universal symbolism of both colors usually imply opposition. Like in sports teams where you see the red team and the blue team. It’s likely Zeruk could be the equivalent of the kid that gets chosen last in gym class.

In this video in particular, Iasa is shown hovering over Zeruk as a spirit/ghost. This likely implies that she’s inactive, deceased, or distanced herself from Zeruk, either from him or what he perceives as his fault. Despite this, Lyki seems to still be incredibly close to him and providing him with comfort like she always does. If the death or abandonment thing is true, she’s likely trying to reassure him it wasn’t his fault or perhaps that she won’t leave him anytime soon. However, the influence of characters like Keruz (and likely Mowette and Kyia) are still eating him up, and the possibility Lyki will be next to go is looming over him and haunting him. Soon, he will lose everyone except whoever is (or could be left) left: Kyia, Mowette, Keruz, and himself. If the old animations are true, then soon Zeruk will have “Nobody” (old AMV) and will have to crawl back to them, since having someone is better than having no one…


But hey, it’s just a theory!

Zeruk, you have no idea how much I love your story–telling and how each new animation improvement each time. It’s both cryptic and indirect, yet also coherent and fluid. I’m beyond excited for Zecret to come out and to see how the story actually ends up going down!
