The text that you guys see running down the screen is just the boot up sequence of a OS called Linux and at the end of the boot up, the hacker disabled the program that was responsible for your desktop screen to run. So to save itself the computer automatically goes to command line mode. He also gained superuser access (root) which means that the commands he gives has to be followed and cannot be overridden.
