U2's "Pride (In the Name of Love)" set to pictures of Martin Luther King Jr. as a tribute to him. The song was written about this great man. (I didn't sing this song or take these pictures!)

Beautiful. I've heard
U2 created this song to honor Martin Luther King Jr. . MLK was intelligent, had a good heart, had compassion and empathy. He helped tear down barriers and brought people together. It would have been an honor to have met him.

Love this man. If I live to be ninety, my life would be not fulfilling as Dr King. And I am angry that he was shot. It was stressful for my family because I had several family members almost got killed in a riots in Washington DC cause they started the graveyard shift

While I have immeasurable respect for Dr. King, this song was written about more than just him.

There are several references to Jesus Christ, "One man come in the name of love", "One man come and go", "One man betrayed with a kiss". "One man washed up on an empty beach" has been cited many times as referring to the Biblical character Jonah. "One man caught on a barbed wire fence" has been cited multiple times as referring to famous pictures of East Germans trying to escape to West Germany and getting caught on the barbed wire "no mans land" near the Berlin Wall.

Just some things to consider.

As good a tribute to Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. as I have seen.
Yes, I am aware that 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)' (1984) by U2 refers to other figures throughout history.

Not just cold and evil, but the stupidest thing anyone could have done, to take this man's life .. imagine where we'd be today if he would have continued his journey.

I know that I shall never be accused of becoming silent. On Human Rights Day or MLK day or whatever pc name the day is given by whomever is in charge at the moment, I teach a lesson about this message. I teach English and Reading. We compare and contrast King and his "I Have a Dream" speech with Lennon and his song, "Imagine." I introduce the unit with this video. Look at all three today and...imagine.
