It’s funny how we’ve basically come full circle back to having the equivalent of main frames and dummy terminals. Except the main frames are now per user machines and the dummy terminals are decent computers.

It is true, you cannot run anything locally and it is not permitted to download the monorepo to your own laptop, so other than familiarity and iOS/macOS development, Mac has no advantage over ChromeOS at Google.

It’s allowed to choose, there are many options. Can be MacBook, Chromebook, Dell, even a Dell with Windows is available. As far as your position and project allows it.

Tip for fellow aspirant devs, use what you have, any quad core machine from 2014 and beyond will get you where you need to be, software is cheap to run.

In my experience MacBook is king for software developers. However, Lenovo thinkpads and Dells XPS are also amazing machines. I really want a thinkpad with OLED screen, those things look amazing!

It's not surprising that they all use unix based computers. Also macs and Chromebooks make a lot of sense because they have great battery

Well, even browsers if to use extensively are quite demanding nowadays. I would never switch to working machine in cloud, especially if working OOO. I tried that for couple of years and didn’t like that

I do not know Chrome book, but I can attest, that on Mac are programming only people who never tryied any Linux distro.

Honestly a Thinkpad would be better in terms of resistance (like keeping important data safe while the laptop gets abused in water, fire, impact and other) and the ThinkPad keyboard is also a great point because of the feedback
