I lived in Honduras. As a matter of fact I lived in San Pedro Sula. I speak the language and know the culture. The police are often more corrupt than the gangs. You have to be on your guard around them and don’t expect them to help. They are not all bad, but many will extort and demand money from tourists.

I was close to Honduras in the southern tip of Belize (Punta Gorda) and my tourguide told me of his frequent visits to friends in San Pedro Sula... yes, he said he always went looking like a beggar to avoid trouble.

Widely traveled here. But out of the 108 countries that i have visited only one was on this list. Honduras. With a small group in 2017. After we changed public buses in a city, our guide told us we had safely done it in the 2nd most dangerous city in the world. Just last year a sailing friend eas held at gunpoint and robbed while on a yacht .
