Holi is just around the corner. While it is fun to celebrate with colours, we all dread the damage that they can cause to our skin and hair.
Here are few tips to help you this festive season:-
Pre-Holi tips
1) Avoid any procedures or beauty treatments for skin or hair 1 week prior to the celebrations.
2) Make sure to moisturize and apply broad-spectrum water-resistant sunscreen of SPF 50 and apply it on your face, neck, ears and arms. Apply a hydrating lip balm with SPF on your lips as well.
3) Choose to wear for cotton breathable fabric. Wear long sleeves and try to cover up as much as possible to protect your skin.
4) Protect your eyes and ears as well. You may put in cotton earplugs and wear sunglasses to avoid irritation or infections.
5) Keep your nails short to avoid colours settling in them which can be dangerous as you may ingest them while eating. Apply dark nail polish on your nails or 2 coats of base coat to protect your nails.
6) Apply coconut oil on your scalp and hair and tie your hair in a bun or braid to reduce exposure. Avoid leaving your hair open while playing Holi.
During Holi Celebrations
Opt for natural or organic colours. Avoid playing with synthetic colours as they are often mixed with metals and harmful chemicals.
Post Holi Celebrations
1) Use micellar water to remove the colours gently; Use a foaming face wash and body wash to double cleanse your skin deeply. You can leave the face wash for 2-3 minutes before washing to help remove the colours more effectively. Remember to always be gentle and avoid harsh scrubbing.
2) Use any deep cleansing shampoo and lather it well on your scalp and hair. Leave in for 3-4 minutes and then rinse off. You can then use a nourishing conditioner or apply a hair mask for deep nourishment and hydration.
3) After your shower, apply a soothing moisturizer that contains aloe vera or ceramides to soothe and hydrate your skin. If you notice mid irritation, you can also apply calamine lotion.
If you notice a rash or persistent skin irritation, ensure to check up with your dermatologist.
Hope you found these tips helpful. Here’s me wishing you all a happy and colourful Holi. Be safe, take care and Enjoy.
