Traveling in a Van from South Dakota to Washington State | Free Campsites & Harvest Hosts

My most recent cross country road trip came to an end at the beginning of June when I arrived in Washington State. It was an incredible experience that taught me how to roll with the punches when things don't go as planned - a skill I am mastering!

Josh and I had so much fun during this road trip and I am grateful for our time together. The road has led us in different directions for now, but you never know if our paths will cross again down the line!

I'm a bit behind on posting and I've now been in Washington for about 6 weeks. It's been a wonderful summer so far! I'm looking forward to continuing to share all of my fun adventures with you all. Thanks so much for being here!

I’m glad you enjoyed the Black Hills! Getting off the main roads is the best way to enjoy the area. When you come back, maybe try for September. Spearfish Canyon and the rest of the Hills are beautiful then with the Aspen trees turning gold! Also Custer State Park has the Buffalo roundup then. Do avoid the last week of July through the second week of August. The Sturgis Bike Rally is the first week of August. Huge crowds and few places to stay.
In between the Black Hills and Yellowstone, are the Bighorns. That range is worth seeing too!
Hope you are settled into your new job by now, and all is going well!

Same. We were not expecting the beauty in SD. We loved Deadwood! We did a video on it. You do need to go back Sarah 🙂 Beautiful sunset. Were the waterfalls by that cave? How fun to meet up with an old Airstream friend! Hope your new job is great, safe travels out there. - Michelle

I pass by Paha Sapa (the Black Hills) each year and I always try to stop and do something. It was a sacred land for the Sioux people for good reason. A few years ago I started riding sections of the Mickelson Trail that runs north and south through there.
One campground I like on Couer d’Alene is Blue Bell on the west side because it’s right on a cliff above the lake. There was a trail (mostly stairs) down to a little cove on the lake with a couple docks. I had to stake my tent down because there were a few windy hours being right on the edge, but I think it would be nice in a van.
Last summer and so far this summer have been great in western Washington. The Seattle area has set a new record for consecutive days above 80 degrees at 18 days (and only two of them were 90’s). The long summer days make up for the rainy winter

I loved South Dakota. The badlands were definitely beautiful. If they didn't get so much snow I would live there. lol We get enough snow in Wisconsin though for me. I can't wait to visit again.

Hey, loved this! So, I’m about an hour north of Spokane, and I’d love to get together while you’re here! I am selling my house Aug 15, but have a great parking space overlooking the river you could use if you have a couple days off. I’m buying a bus, and I’m gonna hit the road soon with my two pups and have been meaning to reach out to consult on waggle and stuff.

Wonderful journey, hoping to be traveling soon.I am torn between a Revel or Transit, leaning to the transit. As such are you happy with the performance of the Transit?
Thank you, be safe.
