No nonsense, to the point, crisp, concise. Very nicely done. Thank You!

I’m a noob with networking but know enough to follow what you are saying. Realized I don’t actually care if the applications are running on a NAS, just that the files are stored on it. This is exactly the info I needed to make a decision, and feel comfortable and confident I can do what I want to with the UNAS + mini pc. Thanks!

Super helpful Frank, thank you very much. Looking forward to UNAS Pro and Proxmox. That will be the ultimate setup!

This is the way. Even Synology choke on some heavy containers whereas I have moved them to some nodes in a Proxmox cluster.

Honestly I think I just prefer this way. The safety of my data is the most important thing to me and I trust ubiquiti way more than synology. I also like the idea of any tinkering with dockers and vms will have no affect on the NAS itself. Thank you for the great video

Excellent video and an awesome idea! great thinking Frank!

This is how it should be done anyway. It's great to have everything in Synology under one hood, but best practice to seperate components anyway

Can you use the UNAS PRO in a RAID 0 config? I don't want to use basic protection at all.

Proxmox + a VM(s) and/or LXC(s) is really the way to go... but it will be faster and easier to get going with this route and removes a number of headaches.

already ordered from your link, cheers

Well, it's definitely a great view parentheses (it's a shame that it's not for me, a basic user). Thank you.

I still have trouble with smb on linux.
After a few weeks / months the machine loses the mount and even after a restart it fails to reconnect.

Wow. I was having this conversation with a friend, because I was in doubt going the full Synology way, or do something comparable as this. However, I was looking into a N100 motherboard and add a Intel Arc 310/380 to it for the transcoding of Jellyfin. I don't really want to go to Synology since I have a complete Ubiquiti kit at home.

Is that overkill, since you have this running right now it seems?

This video is fantastic! Quick question, why not install plex/jellyfin in docker vs native on the Ubuntu?

I want to do this with my current unraid server and move my files to a Unas server. My question is how many simultaneous plex files could it handle on a say 1gb network? Would this bottleneck as suppose to playing the files directly from an Unraid server!

Why use SMB shares and not iSCSI?? Can the UNAS Pro not do iSCSI LUNs??

This is the Unicorn NAS until Unifi figures out how to bring it to market

Now all we need is an ABB equivalent on the UNASPro and we can ditch Synology entirely 😂

So the UNAS Pro doesn't support NFS shares? That's disappointing. Still, I didn't realize it was $500. That is a shockingly good value for what it is. I'm going to be getting a HL15 and putting TrueNAS Scale on it, but there's a part of me that wants to buy the UNAS Pro too just as a backup NAS since it's so cheap lol.

Gosh, just install CasaOS o the mini PC and give it access to a media share on the UNAS and you are DONE. Plex, Jelifin etc. all is there.
