I met her 2 weeks before the election. She represents the district where my family lives. There were 20 people in the room. She was slick and it was obvious. I asked her "What are you going to do if you get elected? The Democratic Party won't let you enact your program." AOC pretended to think hard about that, but she interned for the Kennedys. She's always wanted to be a career politician. #demexit #generalstrikenow #workersparty

150k?
Isn’t that almost a congressperson’s whole year salary?
Why you thing people are willing to pay such fees to elected officials who’s job it is to write the laws of our land.🤔

As Chris Hedges said, they do it right out in the open now.

I would like to know how many people are actually interested and actually showing up to their speaking engagements, who is paying them and who is showing up to their speaking engagements?

I never liked or trusted AOC. Anybody can claim their a "progressive", mouth a few things off the progressive wish list, and be elected.

I can't be the only one who read the title as "entanglement" lol

It’s the political careerism grift: give the corporations everything they want, and then take legalized bribes for services rendered while still in office. Exit your term of service far wealthier than you arrived. Or – why leave? Stay entrenched, loyal to the corporate oligarchy, perform no economic reform, and do nothing that isn’t performative, identity politics, or culturally-based, and become fabulously wealthy.

I don't know what's more troubling: that she's doing this or that I haven't even thought about it until now. I didn't know sitting congress people couldn't take speaking fees. Is it written anywhere?

If anyone defends this then they are an absolute sucker. Even if she does 0 corporate events but still gets paid to speak then THATS A PROBLEM. They are public servants. Theyre not supposed to be getting paid to do appearances and theyre definitely not supposed to be getting paid this kind of money.

Not worth that much money for a talk for AOC/Pelosi. Your talks should be worth that much.

A lot of our progressive heros are also clients of these agencies. Start to check Yanis Varoufakis, Noam Chomsky, Cornel West... They should be asked, what they did with that money, if they took some. Some of them donate it for charity. Or I can't remember which polticians, but after he got caught, he said, he donated his speaking fees. However, I can also imagine, this is a topic, where you get sued forever, because they have so much money and it is very bad for them. Like Chevron did it with that lawyer, who successfully sued them for the horrible oil spill in Equador. He is even under house arrest, which you would expect from China, but also happens obviously in the US.

you'll need a but more than a site to support that claim.

This companies, who organize events and you can rent keynotes speakers from etc, operate world wide. A German Ex-Chancellor, okay there is only Gerhard Schröder alive, costed a couple years ago less than AOC. it was 20 k Euros. Celebrities from the US are on top of the list. You get some powerful politicians from "minor" countries for jump change, compared to this. What also shocked me, that some ex-athlets and Hollywood stars get more than politicians. So the value of these speaking fees is, how famous they are - and nobody will admit this - how valuable their service is as mouth pieces of corporations and rich men. This means, if you watch some big TV sports show, these guys get huge salaries - for f*ing sports games - and then on top of that they get more money from ads and speaking fees and further businesses we never have heard of.
I totally agree with you, that this is hidden corruption. It should be always disclosed and if there is a conflict of interest - forbidden. Comedians and many other critics of this sponsoring say they should wear buttons, of whom "sponsored" them. It is really curious, that in sports, where you do not want to see all those adds, they force it on you, while in politics, where it is vital to know, who is corrupt and who not, they hide it and do not show on their cloths, who "sponsors" them. That is quite telling.

Such hypocrisy and envy. If people are willing to pay what are you so hyped about?
