Factory Five 818 | A DIY Mid-Engine Sports Car

Показать описание
Factory Five is best known for its inexpensive, high-quality Ford and Shelby replicars--but now the company is branching out into bold new territory with its newest roadster.

The 818 is a “kit car” for a younger generation, utilizing a mid-mounted Subaru Impreza engine, an original design, and easy-to-assemble components. Factor in a $10K starting price and an 1,800 lb. curb weight and you have a mid-engined marvel.

This episode first aired on /Drive+. Now we've made it available for anyone and everyone to view. Hope you enjoy!

On the design front, FFR listens to feedback and, with its 818C (Coupe), revised the front fascia. The headlamps on this car are from an early to mid-2000s Camry, and that was partly due to keeping the cost down for the customer. Everything on this is meant to be as economical as possible, and Camry equals economical.

I watched this hoping to find out more about the 818, I don't know anything more than when I started.

I love how much effort you guys put into making these movies for your channel. Top notch material, gentlemen. Well done, as always.

Look, guys. I love the mission and guiding principles, but you have to start the video with a full breakdown of the 818: what comes with the package, add ons and upgrades, standard engine power output, cost and some glamor shots of the car in different paint schemes with different configurations. Start talking about your mission when you get to the end clip of an 818 burning rubber. Just my uneducated opinion.

That 818 sure looked good for the few seconds it was driven or sitting there while the other car was doing donuts. You guys totally don't understand the concept of marketing do you?

There's a lot of work that goes into making a custom kit car. But it always falls over with the design. Hire a designer with a fresh modern design language because that's what a 'new car' buyer expects. An older car design on a car that never lived in that time looks like it missed the boat by a decade or two. The rest of it looks really exciting!

Hmm, light weight, boxer engine, mid mounted, roadster, called 818.  Reminds  me another car that rhymes with lobster.

Any chance you can use Porsche engine/driveline in the 818?

Have you ever considered using a twin turbo Pentistar engine? It seems like it would be a good performance upgrade all around at least in terms of HP and torque.
