I love how the nectomancer build is like, "Step 1: play through a third of the game until you hit level 6"

Necromancer can also cast Stinking Cloud and use it to CC enemies while the Zombies don't care since they're immune. If you're going to heavily rely on this I suggest getting poison resistance through race or buff.

Another cool wizard build for a custom character would be a blue, bronze, white, or silver dragonborn as a conjuration wizard. Use create water to make enemies wet and therefore vulnerable to your lightning or cold breath attack. Very easy combo that you can do from level 2

The classic mage build: Hard to get going but launches nukes after you cross a critical threshold

My first character has been a necromancer, and it's been a blast!

Loads of great loot support, especially in Act 2, and the upcasting on Animate Dead is great value.

Zombies are awesome in fights against standard enemies, but don't underestimate the value of elevated skeleton archers in a boss fight. Skelebros practically carried me through Ketheric!

If you get 2 levels of fighter instead you get action surge which rocks

Also pro tip for necromancers: have your tank carry corpses around. You can then drop them in combat (extra star if you throw them with karlach) and have resources for your army.

This is the first Wizard guide I’ve seen. I’ve wanted to play a necro but no one talks about Wizard

Just as a heads up for Necromancer, the game makes it incredibly difficult to navigate quests and NPCS as a Necro. Everyone is scared of your servants, so they often run around and that can cause some quests to just not work as intended.

I'm 150 hours into my first playthrough, and I'm doing pure classes on this run.

Evocation Wizards after level 10 just do obscene amounts of damage. With Haste, I've been obliterating multiple enemies in a single turn.

Late game battles tend to inflate difficulty by just adding a bunch of enemies, and this set up hard counters that.

When dipping Fighter, I highly recommend the Defense Fighting Style. The +1AC is too good to pass up.

Plus one AC is even better than most assume on a high-AC character (which your Wizard will be in heavy armor with a shield). The +1AC is not a simple, linear +5% improvement to AC as a simplistic view might suggest. It's much better than that.

Defense Fighting Style is the no-brainer choice, in my opinion. You'll get hit less often, taking less damage, and rolling fewer Concentration checks. It's the no-brainer choice, in my opinion.

I have a few thoughts to add from my own Necromancer build:
- Cleric is an amazing multiclass for this. You get a lot of useful spells such as Inflict Wounds (very thematic), Guiding Bolt, Bane/Bless (Great to combo with Shadowheart's Bless/Bane), Create Water, Healing Word, Sanctuary, Command, and Shield of Faith (20 AC early game plus the Shield spell is no joke).
- Any of the Heavy Armor domains work well and all of them have their distinct advantages, this also won't slow down you spell slot progression, so you can start using Animate Dead or Vampiric Touch as soon as Wizard 4/Cleric 1 as long as you have the scroll, like you would normally.
- If you take War Caster, you can use the Int circlet to keep Str or Wis at +3 (as well as Con and Int). +3 Wis gives you 4~5 extra prepared spells (depending on your Cleric level), and you get more useful tools with Guiding Bolt, Inflict Wounds, and Sacred Flame.
- After Necromancer 6, get Cleric 2 for Channel Divinity.
- If you start as a Cleric, you can also get proficiency on Persuasion, which is nice for dialogs.
- Elves get proficiency in Perception, I'm a big fan of having the avatar with proficiency and high mods in Perception, Persuasion and Intimidation, alongside Friends, Thaumaturgy and Guidance. Exploration is quite comfy.

Abjuration truly shines in Baldur's Gate 3 due to its remarkable resilience. With a simple mathematical analysis, its capacity to endure punishment becomes evident, surpassing other classes and potentially even tripling the durability of a typical Wizard. Delving into the mechanics reveals that the damage reduction applies across all instances of an attack, allowing the removal of just one charge to mitigate the impact significantly. The implications of this are truly impressive.

When coupled with the inherent potential and versatility that Wizards possess, Abjuration easily secures its place in the upper echelons of BG3, landing squarely in the "S" tier without a doubt.

I went for a fighter/abjuration wizard on my first playthrough. Dual wielding Seldarine Drow. It's really a versatile character. But I'm not min-maxing that much.

The necromancer's undead skeleton archers do insane damage (about 20 per shot) for the point you get them and have high dex so usually go first when the fight begins but its just requires a bit of micro management controlling them and having enough corposes on hand between rests. End game I feel like their power tapers off and they are a bit fragile

I'm convinced this guy is a developer on all of the games he provides guidance for. The depth of knowledge and analysis is just crazy. Adds so much value to the games he covers.

My wizard playthrough: buy, steal and find any spell scroll I can. Keep respecing to level 1 so I can memorize all the spells. Have literally every spell available for any easy build

Full wizard, drow, necromancer, gloves of dex. You and your minions always go first, proficiency in hand crossbows. Mini archer army, all the buffs of wizard, high dps with an offhand shot to eliminate low health enemies after your initial barrage of spells. Works extremely well the whole game.
